The Pioneer women fell 39-59 to the first place George Fox
Bruins in a conference game on Friday night, January 9, at Pamplin
Sports Center (boxscore). The Bruins
entered the match-up undefeated with a record of 2-0 in conference
and 11-0 overall, while the Pioneers entered at 0-2 in conference
and 6-5 overall.
The Bruins jumped ahead early, earning a 10-point lead in the first
six minutes of play. But, the Pioneers would demonstrate their
usual resilience, slowly chipping away at the Bruin-lead. The
impressive show of the night would come at the 11:00 mark, as the
Pioneers went on an 11-0 run, earning their first lead of the night
and holding the Bruins scoreless for the next six minutes. For the
remainder of the half, the Pioneers displayed a spark of energy
that had been lacking on offense for the first nine minutes of the
game. As the half expired, the Pioneers held a 2-point lead at
31-29, out-shooting the Bruins 48.1% to 37.9% from the floor.
The Bruin defense quickly put a stop to the Pioneer's offensive
attack in the second half, as L&C went scoreless for the first
eight minutes of play. The Bruins heated up from the floor shooting
47.6%, also earning 10 points from the free throw line. On the
other end of the court, the Pioneers went cold shooting in the
second half, after shooting an impressive 48.1% from the floor in
the first half. The Pioneers ended the game shooting just 28.6%
from the floor to the Bruins' 42.0%.
Christina Herring (so., San Dimas, Calif.) had a standout game for
the Pioneers, earning 10 points on offense, also providing the
Pioneers' source of energy on defense.
With the loss the Pioneers drop to 0-3 in conference play and 6-6
overall. They will return to play tomorrow night here at Pamplin
Sports Center when they take on the Pacific Boxers in their fourth
conference game. The Boxers are currently 1-1 in conference and 2-8
overall. Tip off is set for 6 pm, followed by the Pioneer men's
game at 8 pm.
