The Pioneers fell 4-2 (box score) and 8-0
(box score)
in a cold, wet doubleheader against the Puget Sound Loggers
Saturday in Tacoma. Playing in snow, rain, sleet, and hail, Kim
Kittell had three hits for the Pioneers.
In game one, the Pioneers took a 2-1 lead in the third inning.
After singles from Kim Kittell (sophomore, Tillamook, Ore.) and
Laura Parker (junior, Healdsburg, Calif.) put two aboard with one
out. Kittell scored on an errant pickoff attempt. Parker scored on
a wild pitch. Sarah DiSabatino (senior, Pleasanton, Calif.)
followed with a double, but she was stranded on the basepaths.
Puget Sound tied the game in the bottom of the fourth on a solo
home run. Another homerun plus a bonus run in the sixth put them up
4-2.
The Pioneers advanced a runner to third in the fourth, fifth,
and seventh innings, but could not score another run, falling 4-2
to the Loggers.
Kelly Vega (sophomore, Beaverton, Ore.) had another strong
outing, working the complete game, scattering six hits, allowing
the four runs (all earned), walking two, striking out two.
In game two, the Pioneers fell 8-0 to the Loggers. The Pioneers
had three hits in the game, including a pair in the fifth inning,
an infield single by Jamie Moon (sophomore, Baker City, Ore.) and a
single to center by Karyne Sander (senior, Grants Pass, Ore.). Kim
Kittell had the other hit for the Pioneer. She also had two hits in
the first game, going 3-6 on the afternoon. Nathalie Matson (grad,
Astoria, Ore.) took the loss in game two.
The Pioneers play their final Conference games of the year on
Sunday, playing a noon doubleheader at Pacific Lutheran.
