The Pioneer softball team fell 11-1 (box score) in a
soggy game at the Huston Sports Complex Saturday morning. Game two
was postponed due to weather-related issues. Jamie Moon drove in
the lone Pioneer run.
The Pacific Boxers put up four runs in the first. The
hot-hitting Boxers got four hits in the inning, including an RBI
triple from Brooke Toy and a solo home run by Brooke Fogwell, her
fourth of the season. The Boxers matched that output in the second,
with another four runs on four hits, including another RBI Triple,
this time by Carrie Maerz and a solo home run by Kristen Croxford.
After loading the bases in the third with no outs, a single by
Stephanie Vanoundenhaegen drove in two runs followed by a single by
Maerz to make it an 11-0 Boxer lead.
With rains falling steadily in the fifth, the Pioneers plated a
run in their final at-bats. Sarah DiSabatino (senior, Pleasanton,
Calif.) led off the inning getting hit by a pitch by relief pitcher
Melissa Meads, who was making her first pitching appearance of the
season. After a walk to Sheree Miura (junior, Waipahu, Hawaii), her
second of the game, the Pioneers advanced DiSabatino to third, with
her coming around to score on an RBI by Jamie Moon (sophomore,
Baker City, Ore.).
The Boxer' Miranda McNealy improves to 8-0 on the season,
working the first four innings to earn the victory, She struck out
nine batters, walking two. Nathalie Matson (grad, Astoria, Ore.)
took the loss for the Pioneers, falling to 1-6 on the season. Two
of the runs against Matson were unearned.
For the Boxers, Stephanie Vanoudenhaegen was 2-3 with 2 runs
cored and three driven in. The Pioneers' Jamie Moon was 1-2 with an
RBI.
Game two was postponed due to rain and hail. A makeup date and
time for that game has yet to be determined.
The two teams will play their scheduled double header tomorrow
at the Huston Sports Complex starting at 12 noon. Live play-by-play
