The Pioneers fell 26-30, 30-21, 30-15,
30-16 to the Pacific Boxers Friday night in Forest Grove.
Kelsey Neussl had 13 kills for the Pioneers. Katherine Fiedler had
13 kills with six blocks.
After opening game one with a 6-2 lead, Pacific watched Lewis
& Clark come right back behind 19 kills and a .255 attack
percentage in the opening set. A kill by Kelsey Neussl (junior,
Juneau, Alaska) gave Lewis & Clark their first lead at
15-14 and a Katherine Fiedler (freshman, San Diego, Calif.) kill
opened up a five-point advantage, 26-21. Pacific came back to
within two points, 27-25, on a Gollehon¹s service ace, but
kills from Fiedler and Nicki Smith (senior, Brea, Calif.) closed it
out in favor of the Pioneers at 30-26.
Pacific wasted no time in building a commanding lead in game two,
allowing the Pioneers just three points off of their own serve
through the first two-thirds of the set. A string of six service
winners by Brooke Toy, three off of attack errors and two off aces,
opened up a 24-15 Pacific lead. The Pioneers proved resilient,
using a string of four winners by Sara Kettler (senior, Dana Point,
Calif.) and a pair of Neussl kills to come back to within 27-21.
Peacock finished things off, putting away the next three balls to
give Pacific a 30-21 win.
The third game was all Pacific as the Boxers posted a .484 attack
percentage. Gollehon¹s kill opened up a 10-4 lead and
Dunn¹s service ace made it an insurmountable 20-7 advantage.
The Pioneers scored only four points off of their own serve,
including one off a kill from Sara Kettler
made it 29-15. Gollehon¹s kill, her third of the game, closed
it out on the next rally for a 30-15 Pacific win.
Pacific led from start to finish in game four, holding on to a 9-7
lead before Erica Drake (Jr., Yreka, Calif.) serve five winners,
three off of attack errors, to open up a 13-7 lead. Alyssa Finn
(So., Salem, Ore.) then added five more winners to make it an 18-9
lead. Lewis & Clark returned to within six, 22-16, on a Pacific
attack error, but Iseke served Pacific out by winning the next
seven serves, three of Peacock kills and two off of Kelsey Carter
kills, including the match winner, in a 30-16 victory.
Kelsey Neussl had 13 kills and 11 digs for the Pioneers.
Katherine Fiedler had 13 kills with six blocks (one solo, five
assisted).
The Pioneers play again Saturday night, taking on the George Fox
Bruins. Live play-by-play of the match will be available from the
Pioneer website and sportsjuice.com.
