Senior Riley Buese became the first Pioneer student-athlete to win the Lois Smithwick Athlete of the Year award three times. She then closed out her time at Lewis & Clark on the national stage, single-handedly outscoring the rest of the women’s teams from the West Region with 14 points at the 2025 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Buese collected her eighth career All-American honor by finishing second in the 10,000 meters (34:20.14) and third in the 5,000 meters with a school-record time of 16:30.64. At the Northwest Conference Championships, she swept the 5K and 10K for the third straight year, becoming the first woman in conference history to achieve that triple sweep and the first to win four career conference titles in the 5K. Buese ended her senior season ranked No. 1 in the West Region in both events and broke the regional 10K record with a time of 34:16.33 at the Stanford Invitational.
