Anand Earns First Career NWC Student-Athlete of the Week Award

The senior went 2-0 to lead women's tennis past George Fox

HILLSBORO, Ore.—Lewis & Clark College women's tennis senior Susanna Anand earned her first career Northwest Conference Student-Athlete of the Week honors, the league office announced on Monday afternoon.

Anand went 2-0 in Saturday's 4-3 win over George Fox University, to become the first Lewis & Clark women's tennis player to earn NWC Student-Athlete of the Week honors since April 2023. Sophomore Caren Uribe was the last River Otter to be honored, as she took home the award on April 10, 2023.

Anand earned wins at first singles and first doubles to help lead Lewis & Clark to their first win over George Fox University since March 7, 2020. The win snapped a nine-game losing streak against their NWC foes. It also meant Lewis & Clark opened the season 1-0 overall and in Northwest Conference action.

In doubles play, Anand teamed up with junior Charlotte Makoni for a 6-3 win over the Bruins' Riley Bobkiewicz and Shanah Denham. Anand would come back and rout Bobkiewicz 6-2, 6-2 at number one singles.

The senior is now 5-1 in singles play to start her senior season and 9-3 overall. She has recorded 69 career wins - with 40 coming in singles play.

Lewis & Clark will travel to California this weekend to play three matches against teams from the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. They will open the weekend with a match against host Occidental College on Friday at 4 p.m.
