Women's Golf Places Fourth Overall, Defeats #28 Cal Lu At West Coast Classic

First year Darwyn Kormany posted a career-low round of 76 (+4) on Tuesday

RIVERSIDE, Calif.—Lewis & Clark College women's golf kicked off their 2026 Spring season with a fourth-place finish at the 2026 West Coast Classic on Monday and Tuesday at the Canyon Crest Country Club.Ā

HOW IT HAPPENEDĀ

Women's Golf faced off against a stacked field that included two teams from #4 Pomona-Pitzer, #16 Redlands University, #28 California Lutheran University and the #43 ranked team in NAIA (Master's University). The River Otters finished in third behind both teams from Pomona-Pitzer and Redlands, but edged out California Lutheran by three strokes and Master's by seven.Ā

Sophomore Ahika Jani paced Lewis & Clark across the two days. She notched a round of 76 (+4) on Monday to sit fourth overall after 18 holes. Jani notched a 77 (+5) on Tuesday to finish second on the team and tied for 10thĀ overall in the field. She posted a final score of 153 (+9).Ā

First year Darwyn Kormany placed second on the team across the two days. Kormany opened the week with an 87 (+15) to finish fourth on the team. She responded in a huge way on Tuesday. Kormany delivered the best round on the team and of her collegiate career with a 76 (+4). Her big day pushed her up to 22ndĀ overall with the best score to par of her collegiate career 163 (+19).Ā

Sophomore Evie Denton led a trio of River Otters who all finished within a stroke of each other.Ā

Denton placed third on the team on Monday and tied for third on Tuesday. She carded identical rounds of 86 (+14) to finish in a tie for 27thĀ overall. Denton notched a final score of 172 (+28).Ā

First year Kimber Yoder and sophomore Julia Klenk finished tied for fourth on the team and both players factored into the team scoring in one of the two rounds.Ā

Yoder tied for fourth on the team on Monday with a mark of 87 (+15). She notched an 86 (+14) to finish third on the team. Yoder closed out the tournament with a 173 (+29) to finish in a tie for 30th.Ā

Klenk placed second on the team on Monday. She registered an 84 (+12) on Monday. The sophomore came back with an 89 (+17) to finish fifth on Lewis & Clark on Tuesday. Klenk matched Yoder with a final score of 173 (+29).

Sophomore Natalie Nuñez Lezama competed as an independent for Lewis & Clark. She recorded a 90 (+18) on Day One. Nuñez Lezama carded a 98 (+26) on Tuesday. The sophomore closed out the tournament 39thout of 47 golfers with a score of 188 (+44).Ā 

COACHES COMMENTSĀ

"The ladies showed a lot of fight this week," head coach Brad Breier said. "Battling through sickness and tricky greens they were able to set a goal for the second day and accomplish it.Ā Ā They know they have little things to work on but are excited to get back to work because they know now they can compete against the top. 30 in the country.Ā Ā As this group continues to grow and their golf games mature they will start to win some tournaments."Ā

  • Kormany posted her first collegiate round in the 70s on Tuesday with a 76 (+4). Her previous career-best round came at the Pacific Invitational with a score of 80 (+9) on Day One.Ā 
  • Lewis & Clark finished fourth in the field in birdies (12) and fifth in pars (70). They also finished fifth in par 3 (3.63) and par 4 (4.61) averages.Ā 
  • Jani finished tied for second in the field in birdies with six. She also ranked tied for ninth in par three average (3.25, +2) and sixth on par 4s (4.25, +5).Ā 
  • Yoder and Nuñez Lezama finished tied for 16thĀ overall and tied for second on the team with their 3.50 (+4) average on par 3s.
  • Kormany shot a 34 (-1) on the front nine on Tuesday, After falling to +5 on her 10thĀ hole of the day, Kormany posted three birdies and one bogey across her final eight holes.Ā 
  • Jani finished the back nine on Monday and the front nine on Tuesday with a score of even par.
WHO'S NEXTĀ

Lewis & Clark will return to the Pacific Northwest and take on Pacific University in the Pines Cup on February 21-22. The tournament will be setup as a match-play competition with each River Otter going head-to-head against a player from Pacific.Ā
