Four Women's Golfers Post Career-Low Rounds At Season-Opening Tournament

Sophomore Evie Denton recorded a career-low 73 (+1) on Tuesday

VENTURA, Calif.—Lewis & Clark College women's golf cut their score in half on Day Two of the CA State Intercollegiate Tournament to finish sixth out of eight teams in their first competition of the 2025-26 season.Ā

Four Pioneers improved their scores from Monday to Tuesday as the team shaved off 18 strokes in round two and easily moved past the University of La Verne (+58) and Chapman University (+58).Ā

Sophomore Ahika Jani led Lewis & Clark on Monday and across the two rounds. Jani finished round one with a score of 76 (+4). She shaved off one stroke on Tuesday to card a 75 (+3) to finish second on the team. Jani wrapped up the 36-hole tournament with a 151 (+7) to finish tied for 12thĀ out of 56 golfers.Ā

Sophomore Evie Denton recorded the top score on the team on Tuesday and finished second on the team on Monday and overall. Denton opened her week with an 81 (+9). She improved by eight strokes on Tuesday morning to finish first on the team. Denton's 73 (+1) was the seventh-best score in the entire field and a new career-low round. She capped off the tournament with a 154 (+10) to finish tied for 19thĀ overall.Ā

First year Kimber Yoder was one of two Pioneers to make her collegiate debut. Yoder opened her collegiate career with an 83 (+11). She shaved off six strokes on Tuesday for a new collegiate-best round of 77 (+5). Yoder placed third on the team and 33rdĀ overall with a 160 (+16).Ā

Sophomore Julia Klenk placed fourth on the team and tied for 40thĀ overall. Klenk recorded an 86 (+14) on Monday. She improved by seven strokes on Tuesday to post a career-low round of 79 (+7). The sophomore recorded a 165 to finish +21 overall.Ā

First year Darwyn Kormany finished third on the team on Monday in the first round of her collegiate career. The first year shot an 82 (+10) for the best round of her collegiate career thus far. She turned in a 96 (+24) on Tuesday. Kormany finished 54thĀ in the field with a score of 178 (+34).

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Lewis & Clark's two round (322, +34) and (304, +16) both would have been the best rounds by the Pioneers last season. The last time Lewis & Clark posted a round of 306 or better was April 16, 2016 at the Willamette Spring Thaw (Second Round).Ā 
  • The Pioneers tournament score of 626 (+50) was their best 36-hole score since they notched a 623 (312-311) at the 2016 Northwest Conference Championship.Ā 
  • Denton (73, +1), Yoder (77, +5), Klenk (79, +7) and Kormany (82, +10) all registered the lowest rounds of their collegiate careers. Jani's first round of 76 (+4) was the second-lowest round of her collegiate career (74, +2).Ā 
  • Jani finished tied for second in the field with her 2.88 average (-1) on par 3s. Denton placed tied for third on par 5s (-1, 4.88) and Yoder was tied for fourth on par fours with an average of 4.10 (+2).Ā 
  • Denton recorded an eagle on the par-4 first hole on Tuesday to start her back nine. She holed out from 122-yards.
  • Jani placed tied for fourth in the field with 24 pars.Ā 
  • Denton's 73 (+1) on Tuesday was the lowest round by a Pioneer women's golfer since Kamryn Ford shot a 73 (+1) on October 9, 2021 at the Northwest Conference Fall Classic.Ā 
  • Host Cal Lutheran won the tournament with a two-day score of 589 (+13).Ā
