Westlake and Blankinship Earn Academic All-District Honors

Men's Golf placed two student-athletes on the men's at-large team for a second-straight year

GREENWOOD, Ind.—Lewis & Clark College men's golfers Jon Westlake and Luke Blankinship earned spots on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Men's At-Large team, the CSC announced on Tuesday morning.

It marks the second-consecutive year that Lewis & Clark placed two players on the Academic All-District Team. Last year, Westlake and Millen Mistry became the first Pioneers men's golfers to earn the award this century.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore athletically and academically, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher and must be in the lineup for 70 percent of an institution's team scoring events or in the lineup at the conference championship tournament.

Westlake earned the award for a second-straight season after serving as the team's senior captain and a consistent part of their lineup. The Portland, Oregon native graduated in May with a degree in Psychology and a minor in Health Studies. He played in 10 of the team's 11 events (19 total rounds) this season and finished fifth on the team with a scoring average of 77.58 (+6).  Westlake recorded 10 rounds in the 70s this season and a career-best round of 69 (-2) at the George Fox Invitational on March 24. Westlake's huge second round helped Lewis & Clark come from behind to win the tournament by three strokes with a final two-day score of 581 (+13). It marked Lewis & Clark's first confirmed tournament win on the men's side since 1972. In the first of three Northwest Conference Tournaments this season, Westlake carded the best score of his career (146, +2) to finish in a tie for 19th at the NWC Fall Classic.

Blankinship picks up his first career Academic All-District honors after making an immediate impact in his first season in Orange and Black. The sophomore transfer is an Economics major hailing from Louisville, Colorado. He appeared in all 11 tournaments this season and played in 20 of 21 rounds. Blankinship finished the campaign second on the team with his 75.05 (+3) scoring average and second with his five rounds of par or better. He posted two top-five finishes and three top-10 results. The sophomore posted 16 rounds in the 60s or 70, including a round of 69 (-3) at both the NWC Fall and Spring Classic Tournaments. Blankinship shot a 143 (-1) to finish in a tie for 5th at the NWC Spring Classic in early April. His strong result helped Lewis & Clark finish in fourth place – their best result at an NWC event since the 2016 NWC Fall Classic.
