Men's Golf Finishes Strong In First Tournament Of The Season

Charlie Hageman carded a career-best 67 (-5) in his second round on Monday

VENTURA, Calif.—Lewis & Clark College men's golf posted back-to-back rounds of par or better in their final two rounds, to finish tied for sixth overall at the CA State Intercollegiate Tournament. 
 
THE BASICS
 
Men's Golf – T-6th out of 8 Teams – +5 (869 – 296-285-288) 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
After posting an opening round 296 (+8), the Pioneers recorded rounds of -3 (285) and even par (288) on Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning in their first tournament of the 2025-26 season. 
 
Sophomore Charlie Hageman finished tied for ninth out of 60 golfers with a 212 (-4). He led Lewis & Clark in both rounds on Monday. Hageman opened the day with a 71 (-1) and followed it up with a career-best 67 (-5). He notched a 74 (+2) on Tuesday to end the tournament inside the top-10. 
 
Sophomore Mason Hill posted the top score on the team on Tuesday to finish tied for second on the Pioneers and tied for 30th overall. Hill carded rounds of 76 (+4) and 77 (+5) on Monday to sit fifth on the team after Day One. He notched a career-best 68 (-4) on Tuesday to finish first on the team and one stroke off the best round in the field on Day Two. Hill ended the tournament with a score of +5 (221). 
 
Junior Luke Blankinship matched Hill with a score of 221 (+5). Blankinship carded identical rounds of 74 (+2) on Monday. He turned in a 73 (+1) on Tuesday to tie for second-lowest on the team. 
 
Sophomore Joonho Moon and junior Kenji Pickeral tied for fourth on the team and 38th overall. The duo both posted 54-hole scores of 222 (+6). 
 
Moon got off to a rocky start on Monday with a +6 (78) but bounced back in rounds two and three. He shot a 71 (-1) on Monday afternoon and posted a 73 (+1) in the final round. Pickeral shot a 75 (+3) in round one. He posted his best score of the tournament in round two with a 73 (+1). Pickeral capped off the week with a 74 (+2). 
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Hageman's 67 (-5) and Hill's 68 (-4) were both the best scores of their collegiate careers. No Pioneers men's golfer has posted a score better than 69 (-3) since at least 2008-09 (full records are not available prior to the 2008-09 season). 
  • Lewis & Clark's round of 285 (-3) on Monday afternoon was their lowest score since at least 2008-09. Men's Golf posted a round of 282 (-2) last year on a par-71 course to win the George Fox Invitational.  
  • Lewis & Clark finished the tournament tied for second as a team with a score of -21 on par 5s. 
  • Blankinship tied for first in the field with his score of -7 (4.42 average) on Par 5s. Hill was just behind him with a -6 (4.45).
  • Hageman tied for second on par 4s with a score of -4 (3.87). He also was first on the team and tied for seventh in the field with 12 birdies. 
  • Moon led Lewis & Clark with his 38 pars (tied for seventh) and his one eagle (tied for third).  
  • Whitman College, the only other Northwest Conference team in the field, won the tournament with a three-round score of 837 (-27).

Lewis & Clark will host the Orange & Black Tournament next Monday and Tuesday at the Tualatin Country Club.
