GREENWOOD, Ind. – Six Lewis & Clark College tennis players were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) 2024-25 Academic All-District Tennis Teams, the organization announced Tuesday morning.
On the women's side, junior
Susanna Anand and seniors
Hayley Kreps and
Kacie Lau earned Academic All-District honors for NCAA Division III for the second consecutive year. For the men, senior
Matt Chio and junior
Wade McDermott were also recognized for the second year in a row, while junior
Spencer Loucks earned his first career selection.
To qualify for Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must be at least sophomores academically and athletically, hold a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher, and compete in at least 70% of the team's total matches that included a team score. A maximum of four players per program can be selected for each team.
Anand, a biochemistry and molecular biology major from Troutdale, Oregon, competed in all 19 team matches and totaled 19 wins across singles and doubles. She posted an 11-9 record at No. 1 singles, including a 6-5 mark in Northwest Conference play. In the fall, Anand reached the championship match at the ITA Northwest Regional Tournament and finished the fall season ranked No. 8 in the region, just one win shy of ITA All-America status.
Kreps, a mathematics and biology double major from Portland, Oregon, led the team with a career-high 25 total wins while appearing in all 19 duals. She went 16-7 in singles play, including a 9-4 NWC record, and added nine doubles victories. Kreps led the team in overall wins, singles wins, and wins at No. 2, No. 3, and No. 5 singles. She also held the team-high in wins at No. 3 doubles (4) and tied for the most wins at No. 2 doubles (2).
Lau, a biology major from Honolulu, Hawaii, appeared in 18 matches this spring and earned 15 total wins. She posted a 9-5 singles record, including 4-3 in NWC play, with a 5-4 mark at No. 6 singles. Lau added six doubles victories, four of which came in conference action. She closed her career with back-to-back singles wins, including a 6-3, 6-3 Senior Day victory over Whitman's Catherine Nihira.
Chio, a computer science major and data science minor from Chino Hills, California, appeared in 17 of the team's 19 matches and tallied 25 total wins. He posted a 13-8 singles record (5-5 NWC) and added 12 doubles wins, going 8-5 in conference. In the fall, Chio won the Singles Draw A Consolation 2nd Round Bracket Title at the ITA Northwest Regional. He and Loucks also secured a 6-4 doubles win over George Fox on Senior Day, helping the Pioneers defeat the Bruins for the first time in seven years.
Loucks, an English major from Vancouver, Washington, played in 17 duals and finished with 15 wins. He led the team with eight victories at No. 3 doubles, finishing 12-9 overall in doubles (8-5 NWC). Loucks also went 3-5 in singles, including 2-2 in conference action.
McDermott, a computer science and mathematics major with a data science minor from Santa Fe, New Mexico, enjoyed a breakout season with a career-best 34 total wins. He posted a 20-5 singles record, including 10-3 in conference play, and paired with teammate
Kai Wills to reach the doubles semifinals at the 2024 ITA Northwest Regional. He finished the year 14-9 in doubles (7-6 NWC), with marquee wins over Whitman's No. 1 and No. 2 doubles teams.
