Box Score MCMINNVILLE, Ore. — All nine players earned at least two victories as Lewis & Clark College men's tennis opened the 2025 fall season with a strong showing at the Pre-ITA Jamboree, held Sept. 13-14 at Linfield University. The two-day event featured four Willamette Valley teams from the Northwest Conference and served as a tune-up for next weekend's ITA Northwest Regional Championship.
The Pioneers competed against players from host Linfield, Pacific University and Willamette University.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Junior
Max Furman and seniors
Landon Cronin and
Spencer Loucks each finished with 5-1 records between singles and doubles play to pace the Pioneers. Furman and Loucks went 3-0 in singles, with their only setbacks coming in doubles. The pair fell to Pacific's Alexander Kinoshita and Lucas Fuhrmann in a Saturday tiebreaker, 8-7 (3).
Loucks earned singles wins against Fuhrmann (6-3, 7-5) and Linfield's Gavin Orozco (6-1, 6-1). He also led Willamette's Zack Olander 7-6 (1) before Olander retired.
Furman had tiebreakers in all three of his victories, capped by a 6-2, 7-6 (4) win against Willamette's Luca Casano on Sunday. The day before, he defeated Linfield's Tommy Gabrielsen 6-2, 7-6(5) and went the distance with Pacific's Ryley Chang, 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (10-7).
Cronin dropped a tight opener to Pacific's Steele Toguchi 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (11-9) but rebounded to defeat Orozco 6-0, 6-1 and Willamette's Jake Freeland 6-0, 6-0. He and Loucks also went 2-0 in doubles on Sunday.
Junior
Noah Sutin and sophomore
Arnav Bishnoi both swept singles play with 3-0 records. Each added one doubles victory Saturday. Sutin paired with junior
Bridger Galyardt to edge Willamette's AJ Avansino and Jake Bronson 8-7 (4). Bishnoi and Cronin cruised past Linfield's Alex Alaniz and Brandon Tran 8-1.
Sutin earned singles wins over Linfield's Joey Henderson (6-2, 6-4), Pacific's Joshua Dela Cruz (6-2, 6-3) and Willamette's Sohnosuke Sakaguchi (6-2, 6-2). Bishnoi topped Willamette's Hudson Snyder 6-2, 6-1, rallied past Pacific's Jonathan Nguyen 1-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-4) and defeated Linfield's Nick Owens 6-0, 6-3.
Senior
Kai Wills played two three-set matches, rallying to beat Pacific's Dawson Hose 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 (10-8) and defeating Bronson 6-4, 6-3. He came up just short of a sweep, falling to Linfield's Cameron Paulsen in a third-set tiebreak, 10-6.
Galyardt went 2-0 in singles, defeating Pacific's Brandon Pham 6-4, 6-1 and Freeland 6-1, 6-0.
First-years
Aslan Gemuhluoğlu and
Kaden Sigurdsson made strong collegiate debuts. Gemuhluoğlu posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Pacific's Gaven Soriano and went 2-0 with Furman in doubles on Sunday, including an 8-2 victory over Orozco and Fuhrmann. Sigurdsson earned two singles wins, defeating Kinoshita 6-2, 6-2 and Avansino 6-0, 6-2.
