Chin Posts Three Top-10 Marks In Program History To Lead Women's Track At Western Oregon

The Pioneers won the 4x400M Relay with the fifth-fastest time in school history

MONMOUTH, Ore.—Lewis & Clark College women's track & field's 4x400M Relay team won first place and junior Elsie Chin posted three top-10 marks in program history, to lead the Pioneers at the two-day John Knight Twilight Meet. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
Women's track & field racked up 10 top-10 showings and six top-50 performances in program history at Western Oregon on Friday and Saturday. 
 
The Pioneers closed out the weekend by finishing first out of 12 teams in the 4x400M Relay. The quartet of Chin, junior Miriam Reside, sophomore Callow Soto and junior Malia Heien closed in 4:02.89 to beat NCAA DI Portland State University by 1.48 seconds. Their time was the fifth-fastest in program history and moved them into 38th in NCAA DIII this season. 
 
Chin added strong performances in the 400M Hurdles and 400M. She finished third out of 31 competitors in the 400M Hurdles with a PR time. Chin crossed the line in 1:04.06 to post the fastest time by an NCAA DIII athlete in the event. Her mark moved her into second in program history – just 0.15 seconds off Emily Thompson's record of 1:03.91 that was set in 2015. Sophomore Carolyn Mayberry took 23rd in the event with a season-best mark of 1:12.90. 
 
Chin also led Lewis & Clark in the 400M. She recorded the seventh-fastest time in program history with a time of 59.06 to finish fourth out of 32 runners. Soto placed 10th overall with a PR time of 1:01.00. Her time moves her up to 14th in program history. 
 
Junior Madeleine Boyle recorded a second-place showing in the 3,000M Steeplechase. The program-record holder in the event ran the second-fastest time of her career to finish second out of 16. She ended the race in 11:20.54 to finish behind only a runner from Portland State. 
 
Heien added a top-50 mark in DIII this season in the 1,500M. She finished ninth out of 61 runners with a season-best time of 4:40.61. Heien now sits 47th in DIII in the event. Reside posted a career-best time of 4:56.29 to finish 25th and move up to 22nd in program history. Sophomore Nadia Cota (5:15.57) and junior Ali Kerschner (5:33.18) added PR times to place 42nd and 50th overall. 
 
Heien also led five Pioneers in the 800M. The junior took fourth out of 58 competitors with a time of 2:17.77. Boyle came across in 16th place with a final time of 2:24.17. Reside (2:28.81) and Cota (2:29.93) were separated by just over a second and they placed 30th and 34th overall. First year Talia Tomhave came in 51stplace with a mark of 2:42.69. 
 
Tomhave turned in a top-50 time in program history in the 5K. She finished eighth out of 19 runners with a PR time of 19:32.95. Her time moves her into 42nd all-time in program history. First year Maeva Conroy (20:29.53) and sophomore Mackenzie Olver (20:32.95) placed 10th and 12th overall. 
 
Senior Tessa Robinson led a small contingent of sprinters in the short sprints. She finished 22nd out of 37 runners in the 100M with a time of 13.34. Mayberry took 27th in the 100M Hurdles with a mark of 19.17. Junior AJ Schroeder closed in 37th in the 200M with a time of 31.63. 
 
Sophomore Divinity Singleton led the Pioneers in the field events. 
 
She moved up to 15th all-time in program history in the shot put when she placed 12th out of 35 throwers. Her best throw carried 11.23M (36-10.25 Feet). Junior Reilyn Sabado took 33rd in the event with a mark of 8.37M (27-05.50 Feet). 
 
Singleton also led a trio of Pioneers throwers in the discus. She launched the implement 31.72M (104-01 Feet) to take 23rd place. Sabado finished just behind her in 24th with a throw of 31.56M (103-06 Feet). Sophomore Lillian Besa added a heave of 30.36M (99-07 Feet) to finish in 33rd place. 
 
Sabado was the Pioneers lone competitor in the javelin. She finished 17th out of 29 when she sent the javelin 31.35M (102-10.00 Feet). 
 
Juniors Anli Davis and Nia Pile represented Lewis & Clark in the jumping events. 

Davis finished ninth out of 17 competitors in the triple jump with a leap of 9.73M (31-11.25 Feet). Pile took 36thin the long jump with a mark of 3.83M (12-06.75 Feet). 
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Chin's times in the 400M Hurdles (21st) and 400M (92nd) put her in the top-100 in NCAA DIII in both events this Spring. 
  • Boyle has now run the fastest time and third-fastest time in program history in the 3,000M Steeplechase. She is currently ranked second in the NWC in the event this Spring. 
  • Chin posted the fastest time by an NWC runner in the 400M Hurdles and the second-fastest time in the 400M. The Pioneers 4x400M added the second-fastest time in the conference this year as well.
  • Women's track & field has now run a top-five time in program history in the 4x400M Relay in back-to-back years. Previous to setting the program record last year, the top-three times in program history all came between 1987 and 89.  
WHAT'S NEXT 
 
Lewis & Clark will close out the regular season when they host the L&C Larry Byerly Invite on Friday and Saturday. The Pioneers will honor their seniors at the conclusion of the meet on Saturday.
