Sam Gildersleeve set the program record for career runs batted in (116) and sophomore
Ryan Jurischk threw her first collegiate complete game, to lead Softball to a doubleheader split on Day Two of their Florida trip.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After suffering their first loss of the season in the opener, Lewis & Clark exploded for a season-high nine runs in the bottom of the second inning to earn their 15
th win of the year.
Gildersleeve hit a three-run homer in the second inning to break Hannah Dal Pra's program record of 114 career RBI. She finished the day 3-6 with two runs, four RBI, a double, a triple and a home run. Jurischk threw a career-high five innings to post the team's first shutout of the season. She scattered two singles and a double and struck out three to earn her second collegiate win.
LUTHER RECAP
Luther College scored two runs in each of the first two innings and held on to hand Lewis & Clark their first loss of the season.
Junior
Emily Patton accounted for two of the team's seven hits and scored one of the Pioneers two runs. Gildersleeve added a double and a run scored and
Gina Ozuna (triple) and
Makena Dahir (double) each added extra-base hits.

Charlize Pope suffered her first loss of the season after allowing five hits, one walk and four runs in two innings. Junior
Maggie O'Leary came on in relief and limited the Norse to four hits and two walks over four scoreless innings.
Lewis & Clark had a chance to jump out to an early advantage in the top of the first. With one out, Dahir doubled and graduate student
Mari Alvarez followed with a single to put two runners in scoring position. Luther starter Olivia Engler struck out the next two batters to get out of the jam.
The Norse used four two-out RBI singles, two each in the first and second, to jump out to a 4-1 lead.
Lewis & Clark scratched across a run in the top of the second. Patton beat out a bunt single, took second on a
Lacey Marglin sac bunt and moved to third on a Norse error. Junior
McKenna Zehnder plated Patton with a sacrifice fly to center.
The Pioneers added a run in the sixth inning. Gildersleeve doubled over the third-base bag with one out and came in to score when the shortstop threw away a Patton ground ball, allowing Gildersleeve to score from second.
WESTMINSTER RECAP
Lewis & Clark scored nine runs in the bottom of the second inning to take control and Jurischk shut down the Blue Jays to post the Pioneers first shutout win since April 27, 2024.
In her first start of the year, Jurischk faced just three batters over the minimum to improve to 1-0 on the year. She scattered three hits and a hit by pitch and struck out three over five scoreless frames.
Gildersleeve was one of four Pioneers to finish with multiple hits. She finished 2-3 with a run scored, four RBI, a triple and a home run. Marglin went 2-2 with two runs scored, a walk and an RBI. Patton added two hits and two runs scored and Ozuna went 2-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Alvarez chipped in a double, a run scored and two RBI.
Lewis & Clark took the lead in the bottom of the first. Patton reached on an error and took second on a passed ball. She moved up to third on an Alvarez fly out and easily scored on a Gildersleeve RBI triple.
The Pioneers exploded for nine runs on eight hits, one walk, one hit by pitch and a pair of Westminster errors. The Pioneers would bat around in the inning, with 13 batters coming to the plate.
Marglin led off with a walk and took second on a Zehnder sac bunt. Junior
Cami Restagno followed with an RBI single. After a
Madison Scroggins single put two runners on, Ozuna drove in Restagno with an RBI single to make it 3-0. Patton loaded the bases with a single and Alvarez followed with a two-run double to balloon the lead to 5-0. Gildersleeve cleared the bases with her 39
th collegiate homer to push the lead to 8-0. The Blue Jays went to the pen but the Pioneers weren't done. Dahir was hit by a pitch and Marglin, batting for the second time, singled. Both runners moved up two bases on an error by the third baseman to extend the advantage to 9-0. Zehnder capped off the scoring with an RBI single to make it 10-0.
Jurischk would cruise from there. She retired the side in order in the third and gave up just two singles the rest of the way.
BY THE NUMBERS
- The Pioneers last shutout came on April 27, 2024 against the University of Puget Sound. Pope (5 innings) and Tallulah Sickels (2 innings) combined to pitch all seven innings in a 7-0 win over the Loggers.
- Gildersleeve ranks fourth amongst active NCAA DIII players with her 39 career home runs.
- With her five-inning shutout, Jurischk lowered her earned run average to 0.54 in 13.0 innings pitched this season.
- The last time Lewis & Clark scored nine runs or more in a single inning came on April 28, 2024, when the Pioneers scored 12 runs in the top of the sixth of a 27-9 win over Puget Sound.
- Head coach Shawna Cyrus is now sitting on 198 career victories heading into the Pioneers final doubleheader in Florida.
- Patton has hit safely in six of her past seven games and is hitting .619 (13-21) during that stretch.
- The Pioneers faced both opponents on Monday for the first time in program history.

Lewis & Clark will close out their Florida trip with a pair of games against teams from Wisconsin. The Pioneers will play UW-Platteville at 7:15 a.m. (Pacific) and then take on #6 UW-Oshkosh at 9:30 a.m (Pacific)
