Shawna (Feldt) Cyrus is set to return for her 17th season at the helm of Lewis & Clark College softball in the spring of 2026.

Cyrus has helped turn around the Pioneers program from a perennial last-place team to earning their first three trips to the Northwest Conference in 2021, 2024 and 2025. She sits first in program history in overall and conference wins.

The Pioneers have seen an influx of talent under Cyrus including the program’s four All-Region honorees in the past nine seasons and four or more All-Conference award winners in each of the past five season. In the past seven seasons alone, Lewis & Clark student-athletes have rewritten the offensive record books and made major dents on the pitching side as well. The 2025 set 12 program records and finished top-three in numerous other categories.

Softball enjoyed their best season in program history in 2025. Lewis & Clark started off the season 14-0 to earn votes in the National Faspitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Top-25 for the first time in program history. The Pioneers earned sweeps of Willamette, Pacific and Whitworth to open NWC play. Cyrus earned her 200th career win on April 5 when the Pioneers defeated Whitworth 15-0 in five innings. On April 19, Lewis & Clark scored the final four runs in a 4-2 comeback win over #4 Linfield University to snap the Wildcats' 51-game winning streak against NWC competition. Softball would wrap up the regular-season with a program-record 21-7 record and wrapped up the number two seed in the NWC Tournament with a sweep of #3 George Fox University on Senior Day. Lewis & Clark earned an at-large bid to the NWC Tournament with back-to-back elimination game victories. After falling to the #3 Bruins in their opener, Softball defeated #4 Pacific Lutheran 4-3 in eight innings and then #3 George Fox (7-5) to secure their NCAA Tournament spot. The Pioneers ultimately fell 8-0 to #1 Linfield in the NWC Championship Game. Cyrus led Lewis & Clark to a comeback win in their first-ever NCAA Tournament game as the Pioneers stormed back for a 7-4 (eight-inning) win over Chapman University. Lewis & Clark would finish the season with a program-best 32-13 record. At the end of the regular season, Cyrus was voted the NWC Coach of the Year and eight players earned All-Conference honors. Senior Sam Gildersleeve and junior Emily Patton each were named to the NFCA All-Region Team.

Cyrus led Lewis & Clark to one of the best seasons in program history in 2024. The Pioneers set the program record for wins (28) and conference victories (20) en-route to their highest finish to conference play since back-to-back first-place finishes in 1978 and 1979 when Lewis & Clark was still playing in the Women's Conference of Independent College (WCIC). Lewis & Clark won six of their seven conference series for the first time in program history and finished a combined 20-4 in those series. Lewis & Clark finished second in the NWC standings behind the #1 ranked team in Division III Linfield University. The Pioneers would go on to defeat #3 Pacific Lutheran University 8-3 in their first game of the NWC Tournament for their first-ever NWC Tournament win. After falling 1-0 to #1 Linfield, softball earned a comeback 8-7 win over the #3 Lutes to advance to the NWC Championship Series for the first time. The Pioneers set 11 single-season program records and rank as one of the top hitting and pitching teams in program history. At the end of the season, Lewis & Clark had eight players named to the NWC All-Conference Teams. Five individuals garnered Academic All-District honors and senior Sam Gildersleeve was named to a Second Team All-Region selection.

Lewis & Clark put together a strong campaign in 2023 as they finished 19-19 and 11-17 in conference play. The Pioneers started the year 6-2-which was their best-ever start under Cyrus and their best start since the 2006 season. Lewis & Clark matched the program record for longest winning streak (1978) in March, when they won nine-straight games from March 12-March 30. Sophomore first baseman Riley Anderson became the first player in program history to be named to the NFCA Division III Player and Pitcher of the Year Watchlist after putting together one of the best seasons in program history. Overall, the Pioneers 19-19 record was the second winning season in three years for the program and only the ninth in program history. The 2023 team set the single-season program records for runs (209), total bases (455), slugging percentage (.444), hit by pitch (35) and stolen bases (67).

Cyrus led the Pioneers to a historic season in 2021 as Lewis & Clark qualified for its first ever Northwest Conference Championship tournament with a third-place finish in the NWC. With a record of 17-15, the Pios won their most games since 2001 including a victory over the top-ranked team in the nation. Lewis & Clark’s 13-11 record in conference marked the team’s second-most NWC wins in program history. Samantha Gildersleeve broke an NCAA Division III record for consecutive games with a home run (6) and set a new single-season home run total for the Pioneers (15).

Cyrus joined the Pioneers after serving as an assistant coach at Oregon State for four seasons. Prior to joining the Oregon State staff, Cyrus coached the Fort Vancouver High School softball team, taking the struggling program to the district playoffs her first season. Cyrus was later named District Coach of the Year.

Cyrus also played professional softball in the Netherlands, while also serving as a coach. During her time in the Netherlands, she helped lead her team to the European Cup Championship in Forli, Italy in 2003. While playing with the Dutch club, she also served as the head coach of the 19-under junior team, which won the Holland Cup.

Cyrus, an Oregon State graduate, is a former All-Pac-10 Conference player and three-time All-Pac-10 selection. As a player, Cyrus spent one season at Mississippi State University before competing from 1999-01 at Oregon State. One of Oregon State’s all-time great players, Cyrus dominates Oregon State’s record books with her name dotting five different career categories and eight single-season categories.

She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History from Oregon State in 2001 and married Donnie Cyrus in August of 2012.
