Heien Wins 800M To Lead Women's Track & Field in Outdoor Season Opener

The Pioneers posted eight top-50 marks at the Ed Boitano Invitational

TACOMA, Wash.—Junior Malia Heien won the 800M and Lewis & Clark College women's outdoor track & field posted eight top-50 marks on Friday and Saturday in their outdoor track & field season opener.Ā

HOW IT HAPPENED

Heien claimed Lewis & Clark's lone win of the Ed Boitano Invitational with a win in the 800M and women's track & field racked up nine top-10 finishes.Ā 
Ā 
Heien placed first out of 27 runners in the 800M. She crossed the line in 2:17.01 to finish 3.33 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Junior Madeleine Boyle took seventh overall with a time of 2:23.11. Her time moved her into 24thĀ place in program history. Junior Miriam Reside finished 13thĀ overall with a mark of 2:27.03. Sophomore Nadia Cota recorded a time of 2:33.42 to finish 20th. Sophomore Mackenzie Olver (2:40.82) and first years Talia Tomhave (2:41.85) and Maeva Conroy (2:42.65) finished back-to-back-to-back in 24thĀ through 26thĀ places.Ā

Junior Elsie Chin and sophomore Callow Soto each finished in the top-five of the 400M. Chin placed second overall with a time of 1:00.66. Soto came across in fifth place with a mark of 1:02.88.Ā

The Pioneers earned their third podium finish of the weekend in the 4x400M Relay. Lewis & Clark's top quartet of Soto, Reside, Chin and Heien posted the 13th-fastest time in program history to finish third overall. The quartet combined for a time of 4:07.62. Lewis & Clark's second team of Carolyn Mayberry, Boyle, Cota and Olver ended the race in ninth place with a time of 4:30.66.Ā

Soto added Lewis & Clark's final top-10 finish on the track in the 200M. The sophomore placed ninth overall with a time of 27.28. Senior Tessa Robinson crossed the line in 28.76 to finish in 17thĀ place.Ā

Robinson led the way for Lewis & Clark in the 100M. She crossed the line in 13.77 to finish 16th. Sophomore Rose Dinh came across in 14.01 to place 23rd.Ā

Mayberry was Lewis & Clark's lone competitor in the 110M Hurdles. Mayberry placed 13thĀ overall with a time of 19.51.Ā

Reside led five Lewis & Clark runners in the 1,500M. The junior finished 13thĀ overall with a time of 5:12.71. Cota ended the race in 19thĀ place with a mark of 5:26.04. Tomhave (5:32.36), Olver (5:33.14) and Conroy (5:34.89) took 22nd, 23rdĀ and 24thĀ places.Ā

Boyle and junior Ali Kerschner finished back-to-back in the 10K on Friday night. The duo placed 16thĀ and 17thwith Boyle (45:20.45) just barely edging Kerschner (45:20.48).Ā

Junior Nia Pile led all field athletes with an eighth-place finish in the long jump. The junior launched herself 4.72M (15-06 Feet) to finish eighth overall. Fellow junior Anli Davis took 13thĀ place with a leap of 4.47M (14-08 Feet).Ā

Junior Reilyn Sabado added a top-10 showing in the javelin throw. Sabado finished ninth overall with a throw of 28.97M (95-00 Feet).Ā

Junior Piper McCoy Harmon led five Lewis & Clark throwers in the shot put. McCoy Harmon finished 11thoverall with a mark of 10.59M (34-09 Feet). Sophomore Divinity Singleton came in just behind McCoy Harmon in 13thĀ place with a throw of 10.36M (34-00 Feet). Pile took 18thĀ place, when she registered a mark of 9.70M (31-10 Feet). Junior Michèe Brika and sophomore Lillian Besa finished 21stĀ and 22ndĀ overall. Brika (8.52M/27-11.50 Feet) edged Besa (8.41M/27-07.25 Feet) by just over four inches.Ā

Singleton led four throwers in the discus throw. The sophomore notched a throw of 31.84M (104-05 Feet) to place 11th. Sabado came in 14thĀ place, with a heave of 30.14M (98-10 Feet). Besa (29.17M/95-08 Feet) ended the event in 15th. McCoy Harmon took 16thĀ overall with a throw of 28.95M (94-11 Feet).Ā

McCoy Harmon led three Lewis & Clark throwers in the hammer throw. McCoy Harmon posted the 16th-best throw in program history to finish 20thĀ overall. They registered a throw of 29.75M (97-07 Feet). Singleton placed 21stĀ with a heave of 29.71M (97-05 Feet). Besa added a top-20 mark all-time to finish 24th. She launched the hammer 28.63M (93-11 Feet) to move into 18thĀ in program history.

  • Heien's time in the 800M is currently the second-fastest time in NCAA DIII for outdoor track & field this season.Ā 
  • Sabado posted a pair of top-50 marks in program history. She moved into 26thĀ place in the discus and 27thĀ in the javelin.Ā 
  • Pile moved into 36thĀ place in program history in the long jump (4.72M).Ā 
  • Soto moved into 24th-place in program history in the 200M with her time of 27.28.Ā
