Riley Buese broke the program record in the 5K and junior
Macy O'Hara posted a pair of top-10 marks in program history, to lead the Pioneers on Saturday at the Portland Twilight Meet.Ā

In a field stacked with top-level competition, Lewis & Clark rose to the occasion. The Pioneers posted seven marks in the top-50 in program history and five Lewis & Clark runners recorded PR times.Ā

Buese continued to rewrite the Pioneers program record books when she laid down a career-best performance in the 5K. Fresh off a win in the event two weekends ago at the Northwest Conference Championship Meet, Buese shaved off nearly 26 seconds to move from second to first-place all-time in the event. Her time of 17:02.94 put her in third place in her heat (well ahead of her two biggest NWC rivals) and 25
thĀ overall in the event.Ā

Katya Schwieterman placed 37
thĀ in the 5K with a time of 19:35.95.Ā

O'Hara notched a pair of season and collegiate best times on Saturday. She started her day in the 100m with a PR time of 12.68. That mark put her in seventh place in the meet and ninth place all-time in program history.

Less than an hour later, O'Hara took third in the 200m with a PR time of 25.60. The time pushed her up to fourth place all-time in Pioneers program history. Freshman

Malia Heien led Lewis & Clark in the 400m. Heien placed fifth overall in the 400m with a time of 59.56. Chin added a PR mark of 1:04.55 to move into 37

Heien also led a small contingent of Pioneers in the 1,500m. The freshman put down the 14
thĀ fastest time in program history when she crossed the line in 4:50.79 (28
thĀ place). Freshmen

thĀ and 41

Clare Lucey added a PR time in the 800m. She finished the race in 2:28.87 to move into 48
thĀ place all-time in program history.

The Pioneers also ran one relay on Saturday. The quartet of Schwieterman, Kerschner and freshmen
Emogene Lutz and
Miriam Reside crossed the line in second place with a time of 11:08.44.Ā

BY THE NUMBERS
- Buese has run the 5K three times this spring and shaved off at least 25Ā seconds in each race. Her time of 17:02.94 was a PR by 25.88 seconds.Ā
- The 4x800m relay team's time was the second-fastest in program history. Last spring, the Pioneers ran the two-mile race in 10:42.74.Ā
- Buese's time in the 5K is nearly 14 seconds faster than Emily Thomas' former program record in the event (17:16.80).Ā
- O'Hara now sits in the top-10 in program history in the 200m (4th), 400m (5th), 100m (9th) and 4x400m relay (6th).Ā Ā

The Pioneers will have a small contingent of student-athletes return to action next Saturday, when Lewis & Clark hosts the Portland Distance Carnival.Ā
