Four Women's Track & Field Student-Athletes Post Top-10 Marks In Program History

Riley Buese reset her own program record in the 10K by over two seconds

PORTLAND, Ore.—Three Lewis & Clark College women's track & field runners posted top-five marks in program history to lead the Pioneers at the Portland Distance Carnival.Ā Ā

HOW IT HAPPENED

Sophomore Riley Buese broke her own program record time in the 10K to lead Lewis & Clark in their final meet on their home track of the season.Ā 
Ā 
Buese dominated the 10K to earn Lewis & Clark's lone first-place finish of the weekend. She ran with George Fox's Kayla Aalpoel for the first 4,400 meters before taking control of the race. Buese extended her one second lead to almost five in the next 400 meters and stretched her advantage to over 10 seconds across the next 1,200 meters. Buese crossed the finish line in a PR time of 36:20.43. Her time was over 51 seconds faster than Aalpoel-who finished in second place.

Junior Macy O'Hara and freshman Malia Heien each added top-five marks in program history.Ā

O'Hara earned a second-place showing in the 400m. She put together a huge PR in the event to come across in 57.91.Ā

Heien added a big PR of her own in the 800m. The freshman placed 13thĀ in the event with a time of 2:16.28.Ā

Lewis & Clark had two throwers compete on Friday at George Fox University on Day 1 of the Portland Distance Carnival.Ā

Freshmen Piper McCoy Harmon added a huge PR throw of her own in the discus throw. McCoy Harmon took third place in the event when she registered a heave of 36.98m (121-04 feet).Ā

Fellow freshman Autumn LoportoĀ placed fourth place in the javelin. She tossed the javelin 30.17m (98-11 feet) to finishĀ fourth.Ā

Both throwers also competed in the shot put. McCoy Harmon ended the event in second place with a mark of 11.18m (36-08.25 feet). Loporto just missed out on a PR mark, when she recorded a throw of 9.43m (30-11.25 feet) to finish in third place.Ā

THE BASICS
  • Buese's program record time in the 10K was a PR by 2.55 seconds. She moved up to 23rdĀ place in Division III in the event.Ā 
  • O'Hara moved up to fourth place in program history in the 400m. Her time was a PR by 0.57 seconds and pushed her up to 74thĀ in D3.Ā 
  • Heien registered a PR by 0.37 seconds to move up to 72ndĀ in D3. Her time of 2:16.28 kept her in fourth place in program history.Ā 
  • McCoy Harmon added a top-10 mark of her own in the discus. Her throw of 121-04 feet was a PR by almost four feet and put her into ninth place in program history.Ā Ā
