Women's Track & Field Places Sixth At Erik Anderson Memorial Icebreaker Meet

Freshman Clare Lucey posted three top-10 performances on Saturday

MCMINNVILLE, Ore.—Lewis & Clark College women's outdoor track & field posted 14 top-10 showings on Saturday, to wrap up the Erik Anderson Icebreaker Memorial Meet-their first outdoor track & field meet of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
Freshman Malia Heien posted three top-seven marks and fellow freshmen Clare Lucey and Piper McCoy Harmon added fourth-place showings to lead the Pios in their outdoor track & field opener. 
 
Heien posted the top result for the Pioneers on the day in the 400m. The All-Region cross country runner finished in third place with a time of 1:04.17 (35th-fastest in program history). Freshmen Elsie Chin (1:08.16) and Miriam Reside (1:13.07) placed ninth and 13th in the event. 
 
Heien added a fourth-place showing in the high jump. She posted the 27th best jump in program history when she cleared 1.43m (4-08.25) feet. She also led the Pios in the long jump. Hein placed seventh in the event with a leap of 4.49m (14-08.75 feet) that puts her in a tie for 47th all-time. Sophomore Cameryn Nagaji took ninth in the event with a jump of 4.23m (13-10.50 feet). Freshmen Alma Williams (4.21m/13-09.75 feet) and Anli Davis (4.10m/13-05.50 feet) placed 10th and 11th. 
 
McCoy Harmon posted the top result for the Pioneers throwers on Saturday. She finished fourth in the discus with a heave of 34.41m (112-10 feet). Fellow freshman Reilyn Sabado took 19th (29.11m/95-06 feet) and freshman Nia Pile ended the event 28th (23.33m/76-06 feet). 
 
Freshman Autumn Loporto led four throwers in the javelin. Loporto's throw of 31.85m (104-06 feet) put her in seventh in the event. McCoy Harmon took ninth (30.55m/100-02 feet), with Sabado (26.14m/85-09 feet) and sophomore Olivia Farrar (20.71m/67-11 feet) finishing in 12th and 14th.
 
In the final throwing event, Pile and McCoy Harmon finished in 13th and 14th places. Pile's best throw flew 9.47m (31-01 feet) with McCoy Harmon just behind her (9.29m/30-05.75 feet). 
 
Lucey posted the second-best finish of any Pioneer on the track. The freshman led three runners in the 1,500m when she finished the race in fourth-place (5:12.18). Sophomore Katya Schwieterman (5:28.19) and freshman Tara Elsa (5:59.40) registered 11th and 22nd-place showings. 
 
Lucey was also the top finisher in the 800m. She finished the race in 2:39.63 to place eighth. Sophomore Maggie Martin, who was making her competition debut this year, recorded a 10th-place showing (2:42.87). Elsa took 21st place with a time of 3:06.10. 
 
Junior Macy Carroll represented the Pios in the 400m hurdles. She finished in eighth place with a time of 1:22.35. In the 100m hurdles, senior Sarah Carney took 12th place when she crossed the line in 21.64. Farrar added a time of 30.50 in the 200m to place 27th overall. 
 
The Pioneers added top-four showings in both of the relay events. 
 
In the 4x100m relay, Farrar, Pile, Chin and junior Macy O'Hara finished in third place with a time of 56.28. The quartet of O'Hara, Lucey, Reside and Chin took fourth in the 4x400m relay when they finished in 4:37.27
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • All three Pioneers who threw the discus posted top-35 marks in program history. McCoy Harmon posted the 13th-best mark all-time (34.41m), Sabado ranks 27th (29.11m) and Pile moved into 34thplace (23.33m). 
  • Martin was competing in her first collegiate track or cross country meet since her freshman year fall when she ran the Lewis & Clark Invite on October 16, 2021. 
  • The Pioneers added three top-35 marks in program history in the javelin. Loporto sits 19th all-time after her throw of 31.85m. McCoy Harmon is just behind her in 22nd place (30.55m) and Sabado ranks 34th(26.14m). 
  • Heien accounted for 13 of the Pioneers 39 points on Saturday. Lucey added six points individually and was part of the 4x400m relay team that tacked on five points.  
  • Pile and McCoy Harmon added top-35 mark in the shot put. Pile is 30th all-time (9.47m) and McCoy Harmon moved into 31st place (9.29m).

The Pioneers will be off next week, before hosting the L&C Spring Break Open on March 17-18.
