Portland, Ore. – Lewis & Clark College baseball opens the 2023 campaign with a scrimmage on Saturday against Chemeketa Community College at Wilsonville High School before jumping into a non-conference schedule that takes them to Southern California two weekends in a row.
The Pioneers will play three Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) schools over the first two weekends in February. They will take on Occidental College on Friday, February 4th, for a single game, followed by a doubleheader on Saturday. On Sunday, the Pios end their first weekend against SCIAC schools against Whittier College. The second weekend will follow the same schedule, with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges being their Friday/Saturday opponents, and they play Whittier for the second time on Sunday the 12th.
Lewis & Clark opens Northwest Conference play on February 18-19 at Pacific Lutheran University for a doubleheader each day. The Pioneers play their first home game of the season on February 25-26 against the University of Puget Sound. The 25th is a doubleheader against the Loggers and a single game the next day.
The first two weekends of March, the Pios play the teams from eastern Washington. They travel to Whitworth University from March 4-5 and host Whitman College from March 11-12. Both weekend series have a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday.
March 18-19, the Pioneers take a break from NWC play. On the 18th, they travel to Bushnell University for a doubleheader, then host Bushnell for a single game on the 19th.
The Pios face the top two teams from last season on back-to-back weekends. First up, they travel to Linfield University with a doubleheader on March 25th and a third game on Sunday. The Pioneers then host last year's regular season and NWC tournament champion, Pacific University, on April 1-2.
The final two weekends of the regular season have the Pios traveling to Willamette University April 8-9 and hosting George Fox University April 15-16. The Pioneers will celebrate Senior Day against the Bruins on the 16th.
Lewis & Clark will play three Tuesday afternoon non-conference games between their weekend series. They host Corban University on March 28th and travel to two conference opponents for non-conference games. The first is a trip to George Fox on April 4th and then a trip to Pacific on April 11th.
Head coach Matt Kosderka returns 26 players from last year's 20-17 team, including the reigning NWC Player of the Year senior Jack Thomson. Thomson was named to D3baseball.com's Preseason All-American team early this month. He also earned a spot on the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's Division III Players to Watch list with teammate junior Luke Bass.
