Women's Soccer Posts First Shutout Of The Year At Caltech

The Pioneers defense limited the hosts to just two shots on goal

PASADENA, Calif.—Freshmen goalies Anna Ingadottir and Delaney Jones made one save apiece to help Lewis & Clark College women's soccer earn their first shutout of the season in a 0-0 draw with host Caltech.

THE BASICS
Lewis & Clark 0, Caltech 0
(Lewis & Clark 0-2-1)
(Caltech 0-0-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Pioneers put together their best team performance of the season to round out their season-opening California road trip.

Lewis & Clark outshot the hosts 11-6, held a 4-2 edge in shots on goal and posted seven of the 10 corner kicks in the game.

The Pioneers defense of Alexa Myers, Abby Hayes, Sofia Congram and Madi Pastores helped limit the hosts to just two total shots in the first half and combined with their two freshman goalies for the team's first clean sheet of the year,

Offensively, Lewis & Clark tallied more shots in the first half than they had recorded in the opening 45 minutes of their first two games combined. The Pioneers posted four of their seven shots in the opening 12:07 alone.

The second half proved to be more even with both teams recording four shots apiece but Lewis & Clark managed a 3-1 edge in shots on target.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Senior midfielder Brecklyn Beighle led the Pioneers with three shots and two shots on target. Celeste Schreifels and Carson Warfield both added two shots.
  • The Pioneers are 1-0-1 all-time against Caltech after beating the Beavers 1-0 in 2019.
  • Sunday's shutout was the Pioneers first non-conference shutout since Lewis & Clark downed Oregon Tech 1-0 on September 11.
  • Ingadottir made her first collegiate start on Sunday. She played the final 45 minutes on Thursday night against Whittier.
WHO'S NEXT

The Pioneers will return to Portland and take on Everett Community College in an exhibition game next Sunday at 11 a.m. in their final non-conference game of the fall.
