GAME ONE KEY MOMENTS: LEWIS & CLARK 11-4

After trailing through the first six innings, Lewis & Clark College scored five runs in the seventh inning and three more in the ninth, to earn an 11-4 game one victory.

Senior Zack Kon went 3-4 with a run scored, a team-high four RBI and a double out of the cleanup spot.

Brennen Davis matched Kon with three hits of his own and tacked on two runs, two RBI and a pair of walks. Jack Savant chipped in two hits, two runs and an RBI and Mason Lee hit a game-changing three-run home run.

After being pitched around in his first three at-bats (hit by pitch, walk and intentional walk), senior Jack Thomson went 2-3 with two runs, one RBI and two doubles. His second double set the program record for doubles in a single-season (18).

Sophomore Brett Pierson went the first five innings and allowed two hits, six walks and three runs (two earned). He struck out seven batters and finished with a no-decision. Junior Brayden Nomura picked up his second win of the season after going two innings and allowing just two hits and one run. Anthony Clerici closed the game out and struck out four over two scoreless innings.

After going down 2-0 in the first inning, Lewis & Clark tied the score for the first time in the fifth inning. Davis led off the inning with a walk, Savant singled and Thomson walked to load the bases. Kon came through in a huge way with a two-run single to tie the game at 2-2.

The Pioneers tied the game in the top of the sixth. Dylan Moore worked a leadoff walk and stole second. With two outs, Davis laced an RBI single through the left side to make it 3-3.

Puget Sound retook the lead in the bottom of the sixth with a solo home run, but that would be the last lead the Loggers would own.

Thomson led off the seventh with a double and Kon followed with a walk. Lee gave the Pioneers the lead for good when he ripped a three-run home run down the right-field line for a 6-4 advantage. With two outs, Casey Parsons and Blake Tellinghusen walked and Davis delivered another RBI single. Savant made it 8-4 with an RBI single of his own to cap off a five-run frame.

The Pioneers put the game away in the ninth. With two outs, Davis singled and Savant reached on an error to extend the inning. Thomson ripped his record-setting 18th double to score Davis and Kon followed with a two-run single to make it 11-4.

Clerici retired the side in order in the bottom of the ninth to deliver the Pioneers their 10th conference win of the year.

GAME TWO KEY MOMENTS: PUGET SOUND 15-1

Thomson finished 3-3 with a pair of extra-base hits but it wasn't enough, as Puget Sound scored runs in six different innings in a 15-1 Loggers victory.

Thomson recorded three of Lewis & Clark's six hits and both of their extra-base hits. He posted a double and a home run and chipped in a walk as well.

Justin Cavagnaro, Savant and Parsons all added one hit in the loss.

Junior Cristian Panaro threw a scoreless inning of relief.

Thomson tied the game in the top of the third inning with his team-leading 13th home run of the year.

Puget Sound would immediately retake the lead with two runs in the bottom of the third and added 11 runs over the next three innings to blow the game wide open.

  • The Pioneers 10 conference wins (10-10) are tied for their most conference wins in a single-season since 2006 (10-14). It's the 19th time in program history Lewis & Clark has posted double-digit conference wins.
  • With the game one victory, Matt Kosderka has posted 49 career victories.
  • Kon, who sits third on the team in RBI, posted his third game this season with four or more RBI. He is just three hits shy of 100 for his career.
