Box Score CLAREMONT, Calif. -- The Lewis & Clark Pioneers got a run from Mason Lee on a caught stealing play during Friday's 7-1, season-opening defeat at the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens at Alumni Field.
Lee scored when Jakob Ghammachi was caught stealing in the eighth inning. The Sagehens had built a 6-0 lead and added another in the bottom of the eighth.
The Pios had two fewer hits than the Sagehens, but left 12 on base compared to Pomona-Pitzer's seven. Tal Jones pitched 2/3 innings without allowing a run to follow Brett Pierson and Brayden Nomura on the mound.

Key Moments
Pomona-Pitzer (1-0) scored five runs over the second and third innings. JC Ng hit a two-RBI single, Caleb Millikan hit a solo home run and Isaac Kim scored on one of the Pios' four errors over the span of those two innings.
Lewis & Clark (0-1) left two on base in the third. Jacob Serafini and Justin Bailey earned back-to-back walks and were moved into scoring position on a groundout by Jack Savant. Dylan Moore struck out to end the inning.
While the Pioneers stranded 12 runners, many of their most threatening innings came after a lead-off out or two. In the seventh, Savant hit a two-out single, Moore followed with one of his own and Jack Thomson walked to load the bases. Zack Kon's fly out ended the inning.
