Key Moments

Lewis & Clark (4-11, 2-6 NWC) got out of the gate quickly as the first three batters reached base. Kon picked up the first of his four RBIs with a sacrifice fly before Justin Katona hit one two batters later. Sammy Benbow's RBI single scored Jack Thomson to give the Pios a 3-0 lead.

In the second, Gannon's 3-RBI double cleared the bases and boosted Lewis & Clark ahead 6-0. The Pioneers capitalized on Bruins mistakes throughout the game. In the third, Jacob Serafini's sacrifice bunt was sandwiched between Michael Contreras' walk and Thomson getting hit by a pitch. With the bases loaded, Kon brought in three with a double down the right-field line.

Meanwhile, Gonzalez had his best outing of the year. The junior pitched five innings and allowed two runs on five hits with two strikeouts. Dylan Moore and Brian Tatman finished the game for the Pioneers without allowing a run.

"I was really proud of the way the guys battled today," Pios head coach Matt Kosderka said. "We took advantage of their mistakes and made our hits count. Jordan did a great job on the mound for us, allowing us to keep and build on our lead late into the game."

In all, George Fox (11-3, 7-1 NWC) committed an error, walked six and hit five Pios batters.

Game 1

Two runs allowed in the eighth inning kept the Lewis & Clark Pioneers from the opening win on Saturday. The Pios lost 11-9 to the George Fox Bruins.

Thomson hit two homers including his first career grand slam for a five-RBI day. Benbow joined him with a two-hit game. Kevin Kane took the loss as the fourth pitcher of the game for the Pioneers.

Key Moments

With the game tied at nine, the Bruins had the first two batters on in the eighth. A sacrifice bunt by Matt Voelzke moved them to second and third with one out. Two batters later, Matthew Sebolsky scored both for an 11-9 lead.

George Fox's answer came after Thomson his a grand slam to follow Serafini's sacrifice fly. The five runs tied the game after the Bruins built a 9-4 lead.

"Jack had a huge day," Kosderka said. "When he swings within himself, he can really do some damage. Sammy had some real solid at-bats as well."
