WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- The No. 31 Lewis & Clark Pioneers were defeated in the Northwest Conference Championship by the top seed No. 21 Whitman Blues, 5-1, for the second year in a row on Sunday at the Whitman Tennis Courts.

Lewis & Clark's only point on Sunday's championship match came from Raed Attia and Kei Inoue who won the No. 2 spot doubles over Trevor Fennessy and Alex Hwang. The Pioneer duo won their match with scores of 9-8 (8-6) and were able to take the win after winning the tie-breaker. Gordon Barrows and Brenden Barrows came close to winning their doubles match in the No. 1 spot but they lost 9-8 (7-5) to Robert Carter and Zach Hewlin also by tie-breaker. Pim Trouerbach and Keane Hindle were defeated by Ben Kirsh and Chase Freidman, 8-3.

Unfortunately the Pioneers were unable to pick up any points in singles with G. Barrows, B. Barrows and Brendan Adams matches going unfinished. Ramez Attia played in the No. 4 spot and had the closest chance to winning but lost to Carter, 6-2, 6-4. Raed Attia played in the No. 1 spot but lost to Hewlin 6-1, 6-1. Inoue played his final match in the No. 3 spot and lost to Gary Ho, 6-1, 6-0.

The Pios ended their season with an overall record of 12-6 and conference record of 7-1.
