Pioneers open the spring with an 8-1 win

BEAVERTON, Ore. -- The Lewis & Clark Pioneers opened the day with bookend wins in doubles and swept the singles matches to win 8-1 over the George Fox Bruins on Saturday at Tualatin Hill Tennis Center.

In their season debut, the No. 28 Pios won the top doubles match, 8-3, as Christine Eliazo and Kacey Incerpi beat Catrina Kwong and Kristen Mock. Lewis & Clark also claimed the No. 3 match as Adrienne Fox and Glenna Gee-Taylor defeated Sophia Lawrence and Laney Search, 8-4. 

Playing on her birthday, Eliazo won the top singles match, 6-1, 6-3, over Kwong. Incerpi also used straight sets to defeat Mock in her singles match, 6-2, 6-0.

Riley Hanks lost her first set before winning the final two for a win in third position. The freshman beat Jillian Studer, 1-6, 6-2, 6-0.

At No. 4, Chloe Sermet downed Sophia Lawrence, 6-0, 6-1, while Fox was the No. 5 winner By a 6-4, 7-5 final over Search. Gee-Taylor rounded out singles with a 6-0, 6-1 win against Emily Brink at No. 6.

Lewis & Clark entered the match ranked No. 8 in the West Region and won their third-straight, spring-opening dual. The Pioneers host Hardin-Simmons at the L&C Tennis Dome on Friday in their home debut.
