NEWBERG, Ore. -- The Lewis & Clark Pioneers won their third straight Northwest Conference dual, and fourth in their last five overall, with a 6-3 defeat of George Fox at the George Fox Tennis Courts on Friday.
In a rescheduled match from Feb. 26, 39th-ranked Lewis & Clark swept the doubles round including a highly-contested No. 2 match between Harrison Collins and Kevin Ross against George Fox's Nicholas Grafton and Mitchell Miyashiro. The Pios pair prevailed with a 9-8 win via a 7-5 tiebreaker to improve the duo to 2-2 this season.
Gordon Barrows and Brenden Barrows took the top match, 8-4, over Spencer Watanabe and Chris Lilley. The brothers are now 7-6 this season.
The dual ended with two lengthy, entertaining matches at the No. 2 and No. 6 singles positions for the Barrowses. Gordon Barrows lost a 10-8 tiebreaker in the third set after losing a close first set, 7-5, to Lilley before running away in the second set, 6-2. Brenden Barrows almost won in straight sets after a 6-2 first set win, but Nick Ekern took the second set, 7-6 with a 7-3 tiebreaker win. Brenden Barrows closed the match with a 10-7, third-set tiebreaker win to take the match.
At the No. 3 position, Pim Trouerbach and Keane Hindle moved to 3-5 this season with an 8-1 win over Vincent Viloria and Tristen Lerma.
The Bruins also won the other top three singles matches. Watanabe, who is ranked 38th in the nation, defeated Lewis & Clark freshman Raed Attia, 6-4, 6-2. Grafton beat Ross, 6-2, 6-2, in third position.
Lewis & Clark clinched the match with wins at the No. 4 and No. 5 spot. Collins moved to 11-4 this season with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Viloria. Daniel Hahm, last week's Northwest Conference Student-Athlete of the Week, was victorious in the fifth spot with a 6-1, 6-3 defeat of Miyashiro.
The Pioneers are now 6-2 in the NWC standings and play two more matches this weekend. Lewis & Clark travels to Puget Sound (1-6) on Saturday before a dual with Pacific Lutheran (1-7) on Sunday.
