PORTLAND, Ore. -- Gordon Barrows and Brenden Barrows won their doubles match and singles matches to help the Lewis & Clark Pioneers win their second straight Northwest Conference match, 7-2 over Whitworth, and improve to 5-2 in the NWC this year.
The Barrowses (7-6) beat Drew Brigham and Drew Adams, 8-3, in the top doubles match. Daniel Hahm and Keane Hindle (1-0) won the No. 3 doubles pairing over Layne Ryerson and Blake Miller, 8-6, to give the Pios a 2-1 lead after doubles play.
Gordon Barrows (4-8) won 6-3, 6-0 over Miller in the No. 2 singles match, while Brenden Barrows (8-5) won at No. 6 over Caleb Hughes, 6-1, 6-2.
The win followed the Pios' 5-4 victory over Whitman on Saturday, which snapped the Missionaries nearly nine-year win streak over NWC opponents. The Pios also celebrated the seniors' last home match, as Kevin Ross and Hahm played in their final events in the Tennis Dome.
It was good to see how our team came out today after such an emotional performance the day before," said assistant coach Jimmy Chau. "Both teams came out with good intensity in doubles with Daniel and Keane coming up big for us in the end with Keane's clutch serving."
In the top singles match, Raed Attia (4-8) beat Brigham, 6-3, 6-3, to get his fourth win in the No. 1 position this year. Harrison Collins continued his consistent play, improving to 10-4 this season with a 7-6 (8-6), 7-2 win over Adams at No. 4.
Hahm (7-7) won his Senior Day match, beating Shane Sandlin at No. 5, 7-5, 6-1, while Ross (6-3) lost his, 7-5, 6-3, to Ryerson in the third position. Ross also paired with Collins (1-2) in an 8-6 doubles defeat to Sandlin and Hughes.
"It was a great match today and another good step towards where we want to go," said Chau, as the Pios moved to third in the NWC standings. The top four teams make the conference tournament at the end of the season.
Lewis & Clark plays its final five NWC matches on the road, starting on Friday at George Fox at 3:30 p.m.
