PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Lewis & Clark Pioneers are one win away from collecting the Northwest Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Women's Tennis Championship after a 5-0 defeat of Whitworth in the NWC Championship semifinals.
The Pios are going for their first team trip to the NCAA Championship after Summer Garrison earned the first-ever individual bid last season. Garrison played in doubles on Saturday, but not in singles.
After Lewis & Clark swept the doubles matches against Whitworth, Aurora Garrison led 6-0, 4-3 before her No. 1 match against Bella Hoyos was stopped when Lewis & Clark clinched the team victory. In the conference tournament, play ceases once a team earns their fifth team point and cliches the match.
Wiktoria Plawska defeated Emma Jo Wiley, 6-2, 6-1, in the No. 2 match. At No. 3, Christine Eliazo won 6-1, 6-2 over Jennifer Adams, while Claudia Lew led 6-1, 5-2 in an unfinished No. 4 match with Anbelle Burns.
Lewis & Clark will face either No. 2 seed Whitman or No. 3 Linfield in Sunday's final at 10 a.m.
