PORTLAND, Ore. -- Nationally-ranked singles players Summer and Aurora Garrison won the top pairings, while Glenna Gee-Taylor and Adrienne Fox competed in their second and first matches of the spring, respectively, as No. 20 Lewis & Clark beat Willamette 9-0 on Saturday in the L&C Tennis Dome.
Summer Garrison (5-0), ranked No. 7 in the nation, defeated Mikaila Smith 6-0, 6-1 in the top singles match of the dual. Meanwhile, 47th-ranked Aurora Garrison (3-3) won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, over Alexis Gjurasic in the second position.
The two combined to beat Smith and Gjurasic 8-0 in the top doubles pairing to move to 5-0 as a team.
Only Adrienne Fox's match, the No. 5 spot against Allie DiPasquale, saw a Willamette competitor gain more than two games. In her first singles match of the spring, Fox (pictured below right) won 6-4, 6-3.
Vika O'Brien took the No. 3 singles match 6-0, 6-0 over Hannah Andres to improve to 3-0 this spring. Like O'Brien and Fox, Gee-Taylor (2-0) competed only in singles on Saturday, as she won the No. 4 pairing 6-0, 6-0 over Katie Adams.
Wiktoria Plawska and Kacey Incerpi remained hot in doubles play, winning their fourth straight match, 8-0, over Naomi Cruz-Cruz and Andres. The pair is now 4-1.
Carla Thomas and Natalie Kelly paired up for the first time this spring in an 8-2 win over DiPasquale and Adams at the No. 3 doubles position.
Lewis & Clark, which moved up nine spots to 20th in Tuesday's newest Oracle/ITA Division III Women's Collegiate Tennis Rankings, is now 7-0 in spring duals, and 5-0 in the Northwest Conference. The Pioneers resume play at home against George Fox on Mar. 12 before a road match at Pacific on Mar. 13.
