FOREST GROVE, Ore. -- Lewis & Clark dropped the top singles spot, but won the other five on its way to a 7-2 defeat of the Pacific Boxers at Holce Tennis Complex on Sunday afternoon.
Wiktoria Plawska and Kacey Incerpi won their doubles match, 8-3, against Mai Kobayashi and Marissa Hayashi, while Claudia Lew and Christine Eliazo swept past Carlee Rhodaback and Kanani Kea, 8-0, to give the Pios a 2-1 lead after doubles.
Summer Garrison and Aurora Garrison lost 8-5 to Chantelle Baclay and Kaitlyn Lomartire.
In singles, Aurora Garrison played in the top spot, losing there for the first time in three tries, 6-3, 6-1, to Lomartire. The Pioneers didn't fall in another singles match, including three without dropping a point.
Lew, Incerpi and Vika O'Brien (pictured right) won the No. 4-6 matches, respectively, by 6-0, 6-0 scores. Eliazo won two sets by the same margin, although hers came after dropping the first set 7-6 in a 7-5 tiebreaker.
"Our depth really carried the day today," said Lewis & Clark assistant coach Jimmy Chau, who traveled with the team. "We realize we need to work on some things, and I hope today was a little bit of an eye opener for us."
Lew, O'Brien and Eliazo remained undefeated in singles this season, with Eliazo leading the pack with eight wins. Lew is now 7-0, while O'Brien is 4-0 in her freshman season.
Plawska played in the No. 3 spot and defeated Kea 6-3, 6-1 to move to 6-0 this season, including 4-0 in the the third position.
There was a lighting issue near the start of the match, and the teams had to warm-up without full illumination.
"The light situation threw us off a bit, but it is no excuse," said Chau. "We're looking forward to having a week to get healthy and prepare for some strong, out of conference competition."
The Pios play four road matches from Mar. 21-26, including top-ranked Pomona-Pitzer to close out the stretch. After the spring break trip, Lewis & Clark plays at Whitman and Whitworth before closing out the Northwest Conference schedule with home duals against Puget Sound, Pacific Lutheran and Linfield.
