PORTLAND, Ore. – The Lewis & Clark women's tennis team opened Northwest Conference play with a telling 9-0 victory over Willamette on Friday evening.
Freshman Summer Garrison picked up her first Northwest Conference win as the Pioneers No. 1 with a 6-1, 6-4 victory. The match was back and forth in the second set, with both players trading breaks until S. Garrison took composed herself and took the match.
Aurora Garrison, who is currently ranked 11th in the region, competed as the teams No. 2 picking up a strong 6-1, 6-1 win. Despite the score line, the match proved to be a very competitive match with A. Garrison remaining composed en route to the victory.
Freshman Wiktoria Plawska blanked Ellen Rumley 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 3 spot, while Gillian Lowe did the same to Emily Guimont as the Pios No. 5. Freshman Glenna Gee-Taylor took down Alicia Sohn 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 4 position and Christine Eliazo defeated Katie Adams 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 6 spot. Like A. Garrison, Eliazo is ranked in the top-25 regionally, sitting at #23 in singles.
In doubles, Eliazo and Kacey Incerpi had a good match against Denise Poltavski and Mikalla Smith in the top spot. The Pioneer duo jumped out to an early lead and held on courtesy of solid net play. Their composure allowed the Pios to pick up an 8-4 win.
Claudia Lew paired up with S. Garrison in No. 2 doubles, defeating Guimont and Sohn 8-3.
A. Garrison and Plawska, who are the 6th best doubles team in the west region, teamed up to earn a dominating 8-0 win in No. 3 doubles.
The Pioneers return to the court on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 1 p.m. in Tacoma, Wash. against Puget Sound.
