Roberson Leads Men's Basketball in 79-69 Win at Puget Sound

Box Score

TACOMA, Wash. - Cannen Roberson was one of five Lewis & Clark men's basketball players to finish in double-figures in the Pioneers 79-69 Northwest Conference win at Puget Sound.

The win is the fourth straight for the Pioneers who improve to 9-6 on the season and 4-2 in conference action. The Loggers fall to 7-5 overall and 2-2 in NWC play.

Roberson led the Pioneers with 20 points off the bench, hitting 5-of-7 from the floor and 9-of-11 from the free-throw line. The junior also picked up three rebounds, an assist, steal and block in the win. Carl Appleton led the Pioneers in rebounds with six, while finishing with 12 points after ending the game a perfect 4-for-4 from the floor and charity stripe. Bradley Carter knocked down 11 points for the Pios and both Jason Luhnow and Cory Coombe ended the night with 10.

Erin Barber led all players with 25 points, while teammate Nick Holden netted 15 points for the Loggers.

The Pioneers wasted no time asserting their dominance, running up a 17-4 lead with 14:12 left to play in the first half. Appleton capped off the run that saw the junior knock down four points, while Carter contributed six points, Luhnow hit a three-pointer and both Coombe and Serg Ovchinnikov made quick layups.

Lewis & Clark continued to pile it on, never allowing the Loggers closer than eight points throughout the rest of the period. James Osorio hit the last shot of the first half, cutting the Logger deficit to 10 points at the intermission.

It took almost two minutes for either side to make a basket in the second half, but the dry spell was eventually broken by a Carter layup. Lewis & Clark maintained a double-digit lead out of the gate with Coombe handing the Pios their largest lead courtesy of a layup with 9:38 left to play.

Puget Sound tried to work its way back into the contest in the remainder of the game, but never found a way to shed the double-digit deficit.

The Pioneers head to Linfield for their next contest on Friday, Jan. 23 for an 8 p.m. tip.
