Women's Tennis Ends Weekend With 7-2 Loss at Whitworth

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Lewis & Clark women's tennis team ended a tough weekend of Northwest Conference action on Sunday, falling to the Whitworth Pirates 7-2. The Pirates, who are undefeated in conference play, are the 11th best team in the West Region.

The Pioneers earned their only doubles point from Makena McCluskey and Gillian Lowe, who defeated Bella Hoyos and Morgan McDivitt 8-6 in the No. 2 position. Claudia Lew and Olivia Sweetman fell 8-4 as the teams No. 1 doubles pair, while Esa Grigsby and Allison Schneider lost 8-3 as the No. 3 pair.

Lew earned the Pioneers their lone point in singles action, taking down Taylor Pena 6-2, 6-3 as Lewis & Clark's top singles player. Sweetman fell 6-1, 6-0 in the two spot andMcCluskey lost in the three spot 6-2, 6-0. Lowe for forced three sets in her match for the second consecutive contest, winning 6-4 in the opening set before slipping 6-3 in the second. In the tie breaker Lowe was unable to hold on falling 1-0 (10-2).

Grigsby lost to McDivitt 6-1 in both of her sets as the No. 5 player, while Paloma Vizcaino was unable to hold off Caylee Lamm in the six spot, falling 6-0, 6-0.

Lewis & Clark returns to the court on Saturday, April 12 hosting Puget Sound at 1 p.m. in the L&C Tennis Dome.
