#1 Linfield Takes Two From Baseball

McMINNVILLE, Ore- The Lewis & Clark baseball team headed to McMinnville to play #1 ranked Linfield in a Northwest Conference double-header Saturday losing game one 2-0 and game two 9-0. The Pioneers move to 10-27-1 overall with a 4-19 conference record, while the Wildcats move to 31-4 overall with a 21-2 conference record. 

Game One: 

Alex Heimbrodt (2-5) takes the loss for the Pioneers on the mound pitching a solid eight innings against the #1 ranked Wildcats. Heimbrodt gave up two runs off four hits, while walking five and striking out two. Chris Haddeland (9-1) pitched all nine innings for the Wildcats giving up just two hits while striking out six. 

The Wildcats scored their first run in the bottom of the first inning when Jake Wylie hit a solo homer. 

The Pioneers got their first runner on base in the sixth when Ben Beck reached on an error, but with two outs he stayed put. Eric Hyun started the seventh with a single but with three quick outs the threat was over. 

The second run for the Wildcats came in the bottom of the seventh when they used three hits to score one run and take the win 2-0. 

Beck and Hyun each finished with one hit for the Pioneers. 

Game Two: 

John Trupin (3-7) takes the loss for the Pioneers pitching all eight innings allowing nine runs on eleven hits, while walking two and striking out one. Zach Brandon (7-0) picks up the win for the Wildcats pitching seven innings allowing two hits and striking out three. Garett Speyer and Cody Erautt also saw time on the mound for the Wildcats.

Andrew Traver hit a single to left center in the bottom of the second but the Pioneers were unable to move him any further. 

The Wildcats struck big in the bottom of the third inning scoring seven runs on six hits and using one error to their advantage. Three singles, a double, a triple and a home run did the job for the Wildcats. 

Beck doubled down the right field line in the top of the six, but with a quick fly out the inning ended. 

The bottom of the sixth and the eighth each brought one more run for the Wildcats using two hits and an error to make the score 9-0 and take the win as the Pioneers were unable to make anything happen against the number one team in the country. 

Beck and Traver each finished with one hit a piece for the Pioneers. 

The Pioneers head to Linfield again Sunday April 27 for the final game of the three game series and their final game of the season beginning at noon.
