TUCSON, Ariz- The Lewis & Clark baseball team swept Lawrence University Thursday in the Tucson Invitational 8-1 and 14-7, rounding out its trip in Arizona to return home with three more wins and one loss. Using a five run fifth inning in the first game to take a win, they did the same in game two, scoring big in the fourth and seventh innings. Bradley Lezak helped the Pioneers in game two going 4-4 at the plate. The Pioneers move to 8-12-1 overall.
Game One:
Pitcher Ryan Strombom (1-3) takes the win for the Pioneers pitching four innings giving up one run on four hits, while walking one and striking out three. Kyle Tibbitt, Severiano Villarruel, and Alex Heimbrodt also saw time on the mound for the Pioneers. Andrew Doares takes the loss for the Vikings, pitching three and one third innings giving up three runs on four hits, while striking out one.
Top batters for the Pioneers were Michael Kinkenon, and Hayden Higger finishing with two hits each, while Lezak, Eric Hyun, Andrew Traver, Tommy Massari, and Corey Davis each had one. Lezak and Traver also finished with to RBI's each.
The Vikings finished with six hits and one run, with only one batter Jake Gordon, with multiple hits.
Game Two:
John Trupin (4-2) takes the win for the Pioneers pitching two and two thirds innings, giving up four runs on six hits, while striking out one. Keean Kondo, Villarruel, and Heimbrodt also saw some time on the mound in game two. The Pioneers faced four different pitchers from the Vikings giving up combined totals of fourteen runs on fourteen hits, while walking five and striking out one.
Lezak the big hitter for the Pioneers, finished with four hits and two RBI's. Massari finished right behind him with three, Hyun and Higger finished with two, while Kinkenon, Traver and Ben Beck each finished with one hit each. Kinkenon led the RBI's category with four.
Jake Gordon led the Vikings again in game two with three hits, while the team combined for a total of ten.
The Pioneers are back to Northwest Conference play Saturday March 29 when they travel to Whitman for a double-header beginning at noon.
