PORTLAND, Ore- The Lewis & Clark baseball dropped two games to Northwest Conference opponent George Fox in a double header at Huston Sports Complex. The score for game one was 8-0 and game two was 6-1.
Game one:
BOX SCORE
The first two innings were silent but George Fox struck in the third scoring three runs. Clay Mott singled to right center and advanced to second on a sac by Zac Isreal. Mott moved to third as Kadyn Nannini singled to third base. Matthew Zeller reached on a fielders choice, advanced to second on a throw, while Nannini advanced to third and Mott was thrown out at the plate. Derek Blankenship walked to load the bases. Josh Rapacz singles to right field scoring two runs, followed by Derek Dixon who singles to center field scoring the third run. Rapacz gets thrown out at home on a steal to end the inning.
The Bruins didn't let up scoring two more runs in the fourth off three hits and a three run homer hit by Dixon in the seventh to give them eight runs.
The Pioneers were led by Michael Kinkenon with two hits, while Bradley Lezak, Matthew Cathcart, Tommy Massari, and Jacob Burton each had one hit respectively.
Ryan Strombom (0-2) pitched for the Pioneers giving up twelve hits and eight runs, while walking three and striking out four. Stein Retzlaff and Kyle Tibbett also saw time on the mound for the Pioneers. Clay Gartner (4-0) takes the win for the Bruins pitching a complete game shutout giving up six hits, one walk and five strike-outs.
Game two:
BOX SCORE
The Pioneers got the first hit of the game in the first inning when Eric Hyun singled to right field. It was short lived as Kinkenon hit into a fielders choice that got Hyun out at second.
The Bruins tallied some more in inning two scoring two runs off three hits and used one error to their advantage. Scoring two more runs off two solo home runs by Rapacz and Dixon in the third, gave them a four run advantage.
The Pioneers started to claw their way back in the third as Beck was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a Lezak groundout. Hyun singled again up the middle to advance Beck to third. Kinkenon singled to right center to score Beck from third to give the Pioneers a run on the board.
Danny Clifford jacked a solo home run in the fifth for the Bruins, while Rapacz single to left field in the eighth tacking on another run.
Hyun finished with two hits, while Lezak, Kinkenon, Andrew Traver, Nick Lockwood, and Cathcart all had singles.
Aaron Landecker (1-2) takes the loss for the Pioneers pitching five innings while giving up nine hits, and five runs, while walking eight and striking out three. Keean Kondo and Alex Heimbrodt also saw time on the mound for the Pioneers. Ian Buckles (3-0) adds a win for the Bruins pitching a complete game giving up seven hits, one run, and striking out eight.
The Pioneers face off against George Fox again March 2 at home starting at noon.
