Box Score TACOMA, Wash. - Sophomore Michael Hawkins scored the only touchdown for the Lewis & Clark football team on Saturday afternoon in Northwest conference action against Puget Sound. The Loggers won the contest 38-7.
Puget Sound grabbed the early lead on the opening drive. The Lewis & Clark defense forced a fumble toward the end of the first quarter that led to the Pioneers lone score of the day. Soon after the logger turnover, M. Hawkins rushed for a 15-yard touchdown that evened the game at seven all.
Freshman Cody Rochon was multi-dimensional for the Pioneers, finishing 14-of-36 from under center for 139 yards. Rochon was also the teams leading rusher with 61 yards on 17 carries, while acting as the teams punter. Hawkins finished with 27 yards rushing on just two carries, while Jantzen Shinmoto also had 27 yards on a single carry.
Defensively Roy Taylor led the Pioneers with 11 tackes. Taylor was responsible for the fumble recovery that led to the M. Hawkins touchdown. Curtis Shirey, Andrew Traver and Stein Retzlaff each finished with seven tackles. Shirey forced the fumble, while causing two breakups.
Lewis & Clark finally comes home for its first game of the season on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 2 p.m. against Pacific Lutheran.
