Rochon Throws for Over 200 Yards Against Willamette

Box Score

SALEM, Ore. - Freshman quarterback Cody Rochon threw for 214 yards on Saturday afternoon as the Lewis & Clark football team took on the Willamette Bearcats in Northwest Conference action.

Rochon finished the game 23-of-41 for the Pioneers, while rushing for 18 yards. Jacob Costantino scored the Pioneers lone touchdown on the teams opening drive. Costantino rushed for 13 yards, including his four-yard touchdown run, while picking up 73 yards on eight receptions.

NIco Ohland ended the game with 39-yards on two catches, while Gage Bumgardner earned 36 yards on two receptions.

Deion Mock led the Pioneer defense with 13 tackles, while Andrew Traver had 12 and Stein Retzlaff finished with 11. Jon Bielawicz ended his day with seven tackles, including a tackle for a loss of a yard and a breakup. Siosifa Tonga and Henry Lemus also ended their days with a tackle for a loss of yardage.

Willamette running back Dylan Jones rushed for 139 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries. Bearcat quarterback Ryan Knowlton completed 14 of 19 passes for 167 yards and three touchdowns.

The Pioneer defense held the Bearcats on their opening drive of the game, setting up the offense for a successful start.

After being pinned back on their own 10-yard line, the Pioneers steadily made their way up field on a series of short passes. Three consecutive connections with Zac Salois put the Pioneers well into Bearcat territory. Facing 2 and 12, Rochon hit Costantino for a 25-yard catch and run, putting the Pioneers at the Willamette six yard line. Rochon moved the chains with a two-yard run, before handing off to Costantino for the final four yards. Colin Brown followed up the touchdown with a good point after attempt.

The Pioneers return home for their next contest, hosting Linfield on Oct. 25 for a 1 p.m. kick-off.
