Bellevue RESULTS
PORTLAND, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark women's tennis collected back-to-back 8-1 wins on Saturday, defeating Willamette in Northwest Conference action and then defeating Bellevue Community College.
WILLAMETTE
The Pioneers swept through singles against the Bearcats, with Olivia Cornell facing the biggest challenge. At No. 1 singles Aurora Garrison knocked out her opponent 6-2, 6-3. Cornell picked up a 6-4 opening set victory at No. 2 singles, before falling by the same score in the second set. Cornell quickly buckled down to pull out a strong 6-1 win in the tiebreaker.
Claudia Lew blanked her opponent at the No. 3 spot, while Gillian Lowe won at No. 4 singles 7-5, 6-1. Lisa Osepyan (No. 5) and Olivia Sweetman (No. 6) each won their opening sets 6-0 before winning the second 6-1.
Willamette's lone point came at the No. 1 doubles spot, with Garrison and Lowe falling 8-4. Cornell and Lew picked up an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles, while Borris and Osepyan shutout their foes 8-0.
BELLEVUE
Against Bellevue, Borris and Osepyan once again teamed up in doubles earning another 8-0 win at the No. 3 position. Cornell and Lew also earned another doubles win in the second game of the day, winning 8-1. Lowe and Garrison had better luck in game two, earning a doubles point with an 8-4 win at the top spot.
In singles action, Lew could not hold on at the No. 1 position, falling to Rixing Xu 6-4, 6-3. Borris played strong from the No. 2 position, holding her opponent scoreless with two 6-0 wins.
Makena McCluskey saw action at the No. 3 spot, earning a solid 6-3, 6-1 win. Sophomore Justine Minette didn't back down at the No. 4 position after falling in the opening set 6-3. Minette bounced back to take the second set 6-4 and the tiebreaker 1-0 (10-4).
Sophomore Teresa Grigsby earned a win at the No. 5 position, earning a 6-3, 6-1 win over Kristi Nasu. Freshman Rachel Venn had a good match for the Pioneers from the No. 6 spot, taking down her opponent 6-1, 6-3.
