PORTLAND, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark men's tennis team pulled out a 6-3 upset over the Pacific Boxers, who are ranked 12th in the West Region, on Friday night.
Freshman Kevin Ross played the match of his career in the No. 1 singles position, taking down a two-time Northwest Conference First-Team member 6-4, 6-0. Daniel Hahm picked up a solid win from the No. 3 spot, blanking Brandon Schlack 6-0 in the opening set. The second set was tighter but Hahm pulled out the win with a 7-5 victory.
Sophomore Scott Monismith clinched the match for the Pioneers with strong play from the No. 4 position. Monismith fell 1-6 in the opening set, but refused to go down without a fight. Monismith collected a 7-6 (7-3) win in the second set before winning the deciding set 6-3.
Freshman Ryotaro Tokura earned the teams final point with a convincing 6-2, 6-4 win at the No. 5 spot.
The duo of Ross and Hahm took down Giancarlo Battaglia and Troy Zuroske, the 10th ranked doubles team in the West Region, 8-4 for the Pioneers first point. Carter Gee-Taylor and Monismith picked up the Pios other doubles point, winning 8-6 from the No. 2 spot.
