PORTLAND, Ore. - It was a fairly quiet day down at the LC Tennis Dome for the Lady Pios. The women took down the visiting Pacific Boxers 8-1 in a rare Sunday match.
The Pioneers swept the doubles action to set the tone for the afternoon. Izzy Borris and Lisa Osepyan were the first to come off the court with an 8-2 win over Amber Craviotto and and Kelsey Lack. Aurora Garrison and Gillian Lowe continued their strong doubles play at the #1 position in an 8-3 victory over Sinclaire Waldron and Rachel Mizuno. Rounding out doubles play, freshmen Olivia Cornell and Claudia Lew picked it up late to finish off Francesca Battaglia and Lily Do 8-4.
Cornell continued the dominant afternoon for the Pios with a quick 6-2, 6-1 win over Waldron in the #1 slot. Lew was quick to follow in a 6-1, 6-0 victory that clinched the dual match for the Pioneers. Lowe patiently picked apart Battaglia for a 6-3, 6-0 victory at #2. Borris, the team's lone senior, wrapped up a 6-0, 6-4 win over the always consistent Do. Olivia Sweetman played well in her regular season debut at #5 singles in a 6-2, 6-1 win. Pacific's lone point came from Becky Sheller in a 6-1, 6-1 win over Esa Grigsby to finish out the day.
The Pioneers take on Pacific Lutheran University next Saturday.
