Men's Basketball Rolls Past Northwest Indian College 124-94 With Eight Players Scoring in Double Figures

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark men's basketball team put together an all-around team effort on Thursday night, taking down Northwest Indian College 124-94 with eight players scoring in double figures. Connor Freeberg paced the way for the Pioneers with a team-high 16 points and seven rebounds. 

The win improves the Pioneers to 6-2 on the season with one game remaining before the start of Northwest Conference action. 

Freeberg scored all 16 of his points from field goal range, ending the night 8-15 overall. Defensively the senior picked up seven rebounds, which tied a team-high, while coming up with three steals. Quentin Sims and Bradley Carter both netted 15 points in the win, while Justin Leathers knocked down 14. Sophomore Serg Ovchinnikov scored 13 points in the win to go with his team-high four steals. 

Jason Luhnow scored 12 points, Kurt Parker earned 11 and freshman Alex Jones hit 5-of-9 from the floor, ending the game with 10 points. Parker also ended the evening tied with a team-high seven rebounds, while Randall Jackson finished with a team-high four steels. 

Lewis & Clark was never in danger of losing the game, holding a double-digit lead the majority of the contest. The Pios put together an impressive 19-4 run in the opening four minutes of action and never looked back. 

Ovchinnikov made it a 50-29 game with 5:32 to go in the first half with back-to-back drained free-throws. The highlight of the first half came with 3:01 remaining when Leathers emphatically dunked the ball [WATCH HERE] after being fed by freshman Cannen Roberson

The Pio bench scored 33 of the teams 68 first half points, while the team took full advantage of Eagle turnovers and second change shots. 

The second half was more of the same from Lewis & Clark as the team quickly picked up a 30 point advantage in the opening minutes. Northwest Indian was never able to pull closer than 24 points the remainder of the contest.  

The Pioneers return to the court on Monday, Dec. 30 at 7 p.m. as they host UC Santa Cruz.
