Men's Tennis Opens Season With 9-0 Loss

FOREST GROVE, Ore. - In the first match of the season, the Lewis & Clark men's tennis team faced off against a tough Pacific team in a Northwest Conference competition. The Boxers defeated the Pioneers 9-0.

The Pioneers No. 1 singles player, freshman Olivier Groot, battled strong against Troy Zuroske, taking him to three sets. Groot fell 6-3 in the first before bouncing back to win the second 7-5. In the tie breaker, Groot fell 1-0 (10-3). Freshman Carter Gee-Taylor also put up a fight in his first set, falling to Eric Furuya 7-5 from the No. 3 spot. Furuya went on to win the second set 6-0.

Groot teamed up with Quinn Roth-Carter in singles, once again playing in the No. 1 spot, where the duo took on Zuroske and Giancarlo Battaglia. After much back and forth Groot and Roth-Carter fell 8-5.

The Pioneers return to action on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 1 p.m. at Linfield.
