PORTLAND, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark men's basketball team picked up its eighth consecutive home win of the season on Friday night against the Pacific Boxers led by 17 points from senior Donato Perconti.
The Pioneers improve to 9-7 on the season and 4-3 in Northwest Conferenece action. The Boxers fall to 8-8 overall and 2-5 in the NWC.
Perconti ended the night 6-8 from the field, including 4-6 from behind the three point arc. Senior PJ Taylor finished the game with 13 points, while junior James Hollins scored 12. Sophomore Quentin Sims contributed 11 points in the Pioneers victory. Hollins ended the night with a team-high five rebounds along with teammate Marcus Wells.
Joey Burns led the Boxers with a team-high 11 points, while Colin Wester chipped in 10. Robby Babek pulled down a game-high six boards.
Taylor opened the scoring with a three pointer with 18:58 on the clock, before going on to hand the Pioneers a 12-6 advantage four minutes later with another basket from distance. A layup in the paint by Wells put Lewis & Clark ahead 22-12 with 10:33 to go in the period. The Pioneers closed out the first half of action on a 14-7 run to take a 45-25 lead into the half.
The Pioneer bench played a pivitol role in the first half, scoring 24 of the teams 45 points.
Wester started off the second half with a layup to cut the Boxer deficit to 45-27. The Pioneers continued to pressure and hold control of the game throughout the half. Taylor put the Pios up by 30 points with 13:17 to play with a layup in the paint. A Sims three pointer five minutes later increased the Pioneer lead to 78-40. Sims finished the scoring with another three pointer with a minute on the clock to earn the Pios the 84-50 victory.
The Pioneers return to action on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 8 p.m. as they travel to Puget Sound.
