Pioneers Fall 8-1 to the Bruins

Boxscore

PORTLAND, OR.-

George Allen continues to shine as the Bruins dominate the rest of the Pioneer line-up.  The day's matches started off with doubles action with the maturation of some of the Pioneers evident.  The number two doubles team of Preston Mann and Justin McClain was simply too much for the Pioneers as the roll to an 8-1 victory over Kerry White and Sam Franer.  Cole Pfeifer and Muneeb Khan would have more luck as they stayed close to Nolan Staples and Pax Magaway, but they would end up falling 8-4.  The tightest match of the day came at the number one doubles slot where Allen and partner Quinn Roth-Carter would give Peter Brown and Josiah Jackson all that they could handle.  The Bruins would come out on top of this one, 9-7, but the chemistry between Allen and Roth-Carter is finally starting to show through much improved play late in the season.

Kerry White would have some success on the Bruin courts in a 6-2, 6-3 loss, but his teammates would find a very rough go at it.  No other players from the #2 through #6 slots could manage more than two games in their matches.  Once again, it would be Allen leading the way to the team's only point.  Determined to not lose a singles match to the Bruins for the second time this year, Allen kept a hard fighting McClain at bay with deep ground strokes and penetrating back hand slices.  It was Allen's first straight set victory of the year, winning 6-3, 6-4.

The Pioneers face the Pacific Boxers next in Forest Grove at 5 pm on April 8th.
