Unlucky Streak Continues As Pios Fall To Willamette, 7-2

Boxscore

by Jimmy Chau

PORTLAND, OR.-

Playing without their ace, who was out with a fever, the Pios can't make up enough ground.

Doubles action would fly by this afternoon as all three doubles matches seemed to go one way or the other fairly rapidly.  It was Willamette who took the first and third doubles flights by the same 8-2 score.  Natalia Agarycheva and Shannon Palmer would defeat Whitney DeBree and Izzy Borris and Katie Huber and Emily Bee would down Makena McCluskey and Catherine Eichhorn.  Giving the Pio fans something to cheer about were Jill Coleman and Olivia Sweetman who came up with their own convincing win with an 8-3 tally.

Singles play would see some closer matches but only one would go the Pios' way.  Sweetman took her second victory of the young season with a 6-4, 6-1 win at the #5 singles slot.  Palmer took a hard fought 6-4, 6-3 victory over Borris.  Other matches seemed to go fairly easily for the Bearcats as Agarycheva won going away 6-1, 6-1 and Sabrina Gutierrez would score a relatively easy 6-1, 6-0 win.

The Pios next face the Whitman Missionaries at home on Saturday at 2:00 pm.
