McMINNVILLE, Ore. – The Lewis & Clark
men's basketball team took down the Linfield Wildcats on
Friday night with a convincing 79-64 at the Ted Wilson Gymnasium in
a Northwest Conference contest. The victory improves the Pioneers
to 7-12 overall and 6-5 in conference action, while the Wildcats
are now 10-9 on the season and 8-3 in the NWC.
With the win, the Pioneers split the series with the Wildcats after
falling at home on Jan. 8.
In the first half, the Pioneers ran up a six point advantage after
sophomore James Hollins laid one in with 16:39 to play in the
period. The Wildcats came back to run up a 22-15 lead after Kris
Rainwater hit a jumper with 8:00 on the clock. Senior Josh Kollasch
recaptured the lead for the Pioneers with a little over two minutes
remaining in the half, nailing a three-pointer with help from
Justin McCollough. Kollasch would hit another three with five
second remaining to send the Pios into the locker room up
34-27.
The Pioneers added to their lead right out of the gate in the
second half, with Kyle Meeuwsen hitting a jumper taking the score
to 36-27. The Wildcats remained composed, clawing their way back
into the contest on a three-pointer from Cody Tesoro with 14:54 on
the clock to take a 41-40 advantage. A three-point play from
Kollasch with 14:29 to play recaptured the Pioneer lead and this
time the Pioneers would not let it go. Scott Pisapia hit a jumper
with a little over 10 minutes left in the half to give the Pioneers
their first double-digit lead of the game, putting them up 57-47.
The Pios largest lead came after a huge dunk from Meeuwsen at the
6:52 mark, putting Lewis & Clark up 64-47. The Wildcats picked
up a couple points in the closing moments of the game to send the
Pios home with a 15 point, 79-64, victory.
Edwards ended the night with a game-high 20 points, while Kollasch
finished with 20. Meeuwsen and Hollins each finished with 14
points, while Meeuwsen pulled down a team-high seven boards.
Tesoro scored 19 points for the Wildcats, while teammate Kris
Rainwater finished with 12 points. K.C. Wiser ended with a
game-high eight rebounds.
The Pioneers return to the court on Saturday, Feb. 6 when they host
Pacific Lutheran at 8 p.m.
