BOX SCORE

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Lewis & Clark men's basketball team fell 89-65 to the Whitworth Pirates in the first round of the Northwest Conference Semifinal game on Thursday night in the Whitworth Fieldhouse.

The Pioneers jumped out to an 18-14 lead six minutes into the contest on a Kelly Edwards layup in the paint. Whitworth struck back, taking the lead moments later before senior Tyler Tsukazaki hit a three pointer for a 25-24 edge for the Pios. The Pirates surged back in the closing moments of the half, going on an 18-3 run, to take a 42-28 lead into the locker room.

In the second half, the Pirates continued to push the tempo, stretching their lead to 19 points. The Pioneers would try to chip away at the lead, but would not be able to pull any closer than 16 points the rest of the way.
Edwards finished with 20 points for the Pioneers, while sophomore James Hollins posted a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Kyle Meeuwsen added 12 points to the Pioneers assault.

The Pioneers return to the court for their final game of the 2009-10 season on March 2 when they travel across town to take on the University of Portland.
