SPOKANE, Wash. – The Lewis & Clark
men's basketball team fell 89-65 to the Whitworth Pirates in
the first round of the Northwest Conference Semifinal game on
Thursday night in the Whitworth Fieldhouse.
The Pioneers jumped out to an 18-14 lead six minutes into the
contest on a Kelly Edwards layup in the paint. Whitworth struck
back, taking the lead moments later before senior Tyler Tsukazaki
hit a three pointer for a 25-24 edge for the Pios. The Pirates
surged back in the closing moments of the half, going on an 18-3
run, to take a 42-28 lead into the locker room.
In the second half, the Pirates continued to push the tempo,
stretching their lead to 19 points. The Pioneers would try to chip
away at the lead, but would not be able to pull any closer than 16
points the rest of the way.
Edwards finished with 20 points for the Pioneers, while sophomore
James Hollins posted a double-double with 11 points and 12
rebounds. Kyle Meeuwsen added 12 points to the Pioneers
assault.
The Pioneers return to the court for their final game of the
2009-10 season on March 2 when they travel across town to take on
the University of Portland.
