Men's Basketball Opens Conference With 77-60 Loss

BOX SCORE

PORTLAND, Ore. - Northwest Conference action did not open the way the Lewis & Clark Pioneers had hoped, as the team dropped a 77-60 decision to the Whitworth Pirates on Friday night in the Pamplin Sports Complex. Donato Perconti led the Pioneers in points with 16, while senior Kelly Edwards tallied a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Perconti ended the night 6-12 from the floor, while finishing 2-4 from the free throw line. Edwards also finished well from the free throw line, hitting 6-9 from the charity stripe. Junior PJ Taylor added 10 points to the Pios offense, while James Hollins chipped in nine points.

Edwards led all players in rebounds with 10, while Kyle Meeuwsen and Hollins each came down with seven for the Pioneers. Meeuwsen came up with a block for the Pios late in the contest, while also stealing the ball from the Pirates on one occasion.

The Pirates had five players finish in double digits in scoring, led by Jack Loofburrow who finished with a team-high 14 points. Wade Gebbers finished with 13 points, while Michael Taylor (Brewster) and Friedt each had a dozen points. Riley was the fifth Pirate in double figures with 11 points. Felix Freidt led the Bucs with seven rebounds.

The Pioneers return to action on Saturday, Dec. 4 when they host the Whitman Missionaries at 6 p.m.
